Update on Trigeminal Neuralgia
Current Treatment Options in Neurology, 2019To review current treatments for trigeminal neuralgia, with an emphasis on determining which patients may benefit from neurosurgical procedures.A detailed history is the most helpful tool for diagnosing trigeminal neuralgia (TN) and predicting response to neurosurgical treatments.

Trigeminal neuralgia andglossopharyngeal neuralgia
Neurologic Clinics, 2004Trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia are extremely painful conditions that typically afflict an older population. Distinct clinical characteristics guide the diagnosis of these unique syndromes. Treatment involves medication first and then surgical procedures if a patient is refractory to medicinal therapy.

Trigeminal neuralgia: An overview
Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1979Facial pain is a perplexing problem confronting all who practice the healing arts. The purpose of this article is to concentrate on one aspect of facial pain--trigeminal neuralgia. An overview of this entity is presented by demonstrating current concepts in its etiology, diagnosis, and treatment.

Bilateral Trigeminal Neuralgia
Journal of Neurosurgery, 1987✓ Bilateral trigeminal neuralgia occurred in 32 (11.9%) of 269 consecutive patients who were treated with radiofrequency electrocoagulation (RFE). This is a higher incidence than has been reported before and may be explained by the prospective nature of the present study, the long follow-up period, and the inclusion of patients with mild bilateral ...

Survival in trigeminal neuralgia
Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1973Abstract A cohort of persons with trigeminal neuralgia was followed to evaluate overall mortality and death due to specific causes. The relative survival ratio indicated that trigeminal neuralgia patients may survive longer than the general population. This finding was present in both sexes, although more marked for females.

Epidemiology of trigeminal neuralgia
Journal of Chronic Diseases, 1973Abstract Using data on patients hospitalized at the Massachusetts General Hospital, the sex ratio for trigeminal neuralgia was estimated to be 1.17 females: males. To investigate possible risk factors for this disease, 526 patients and 528 controls from two Boston neurosurgical clinics were studied.

Radiosurgery for Trigeminal Neuralgia
2007Radiosurgery has recently emerged as a suitable treatment of pharmacologically resistant idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia. Results and complications of this treatment are related to parameters of the dosimetry, i.e. the dose and the target. We found that the irradiation dose delivered to the brainstem, the distance between the target and the brainstem ...

Radiosurgery in trigeminal neuralgia
Physica Medica, 2014Trigeminal neuralgia is a rare but debilitating pain syndrome with a distinct clinical presentation mainly affecting people advancing in years. Compression of the trigeminal nerve by an aberrant vascular loop has been proposed as the causative factor in the majority of cases leading to the development of a highly effective surgical treatment approach ...
