Trigeminocardiac reflexes: maxillary and mandibular variants of the oculocardiac reflex [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Anaesthesia, 1991
Three case reports are presented to illustrate the existence and importance of reflex bradycardic responses that can occur during maxillofacial surgical procedures. All three patients were healthy young adults undergoing operations which did not include any manipulation of orbital structures.

Effect of initial and subsequent mask applications on breathing and heart rate in preterm infants at birth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
ObjectiveApplication of a face mask may provoke the trigeminocardiac reflex, leading to apnoea and bradycardia. This study investigates whether re-application of a face mask in preterm infants at birth alters the risk of apnoea compared with the initial ...

Investigation into the characteristics, triggers and mechanism of apnoea and bradycardia in the anaesthetized platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Health and conservation research on platypuses (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) may require anaesthesia to reduce stress and the risk of injury to both the animal and the researcher, as well as to facilitate examination and sample collection.
