Exploring the market risk profiles of US and European stock insurers

open access: yesRisk Management and Insurance Review, Volume 26, Issue 3, Page 287-341, Fall 2023., 2023
Abstract Market risks account for an integral part of insurers' risk profiles. We explore market risk sensitivities of insurers in the United States and Europe. Accounting for cloud cover and circannual variation puts the effect of lunar phase on deer–vehicle collisions into perspective

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 8, Page 1698-1707, August 2023., 2023
Because collisions with roe deer peak at particular periods of the year, signs should be installed seasonally. By doing so, they would warn drivers about the risk, improve drivers' awareness and increase their safety. Moreover, as collisions also increase on nights with a full moon and overcast skies, interactive warning signs that are activated by ...

Facies analysis, depositional activity, and internal structure of sieve deposits on an active alluvial fan

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 48, Issue 3, Page 647-664, 15 March 2023., 2023
We performed a detailed sedimentological analysis of 11 sieve lobes on an active alluvial fan. A three‐year aerial surface survey detected active sieve‐lobe evolution, which was paired with triggering precipitation events. Ground‐penetrating radar depicted the architecture of the sieve‐lobe built alluvial fan.

Multi‐proxy reconstruction of the Holocene vegetation and land use dynamics in the Julian Alps, north‐west Slovenia

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 107-122, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Small mountain lakes are natural archives for understanding long‐term natural and anthropogenic impact on the environment. This study focused on long‐term (last ca. 13 000 years) vegetation changes and sedimentary processes in the catchment area of Lake Planina pri jezeru (1430 m a.s.l.) by using mineralogical, geochemical and palynological ...

Wildlife roadkill and COVID‐19: A biologically significant, but heterogeneous, reduction

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 5, Page 1291-1301, May 2022., 2022
Management aimed at reducing vehicular traffic, and therefore human disturbance and roadkill, can be evaluated using time‐series analysis of data on multiple species. During times of restricted human movement, local‐scale reductions should be estimated and accounted for in adaptive management, such as for planning culling quotas, to minimize their ...
