Assessment of fish populations and habitat on Oculina Bank, a deep-sea coral marine protected area off eastern Florida [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A portion of the Oculina Bank located off eastern Florida is a marine protected area (MPA) preserved for its dense populations of the ivory tree coral (Oculina varicosa), which provides important habitat for fish.

A new species ofPterygotrigla(Pisces: Triglidae) from New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, 1982
Abstract Pterygotrigla pauli n.sp. is described from 6 specimens trawled at 512-630 m on the Challenger Plateau, off the west coast of New Zealand. It differs from P. picta (Gunther) and P. polyommata (Richardson) principally in having a very large, bony orbit and a scattering of small, yellow spots on the upper surface of the body, behind the head.

A fish otolith assemblage from the Late Miocene (Pannonian) deposits of Lake Pannon (Doba, NW Hungary) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A fish otolith assemblage consisting of 173 specimens was recovered from littoral sand deposits of the brackish Lake Pannon at Doba, western Hungary. Co-occurring endemic mollusks indicate the Lymnocardium ponticum Zone, thus an age of about 9 million ...

New Species of Lepidotrigla (Scorpaeniformes: Triglidae) from the Waters off Northern Australia

open access: yesThe Beagle : Records of the Museums and Art Galleries of the Northern Territory, 1995
A new species of the family Triglidae, Lepidotrigla russelli sp. nov., from the waters off the Northern Territory and Queensland (Australia) is presented. The new taxon is compared with its similar relatives in the genus Lepidotrigla Gunther, 1860: L. faurei Gilchrist and Thompson, 1914, and L. cadmani Regan, 1915.

A report on a survey with the r/v "Ernst Haeckel" in July-August 1980: shallow-water shrimp and by-catch, oceanography [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
A survey of the Sofala Bank (Mozambique) was conducted to: estimate the abundance of shallow-water shrimp in the area between 16 degree 20'S and 20 degree 20'S, from 5 to 100 meters; estimate the shallow-water shrimp species composition and distribution ...

Growth of red gurnard (Teleostei: Triglidae) from Pegasus bay, Canterbury, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, 1972
Abstract Growth of the red gurnard, Chelidonichthys kumu (Lesson and Garnot), from Pegasus Bay, Canterbury, was measured during 1966–67. Otoliths were used as an indicator of fish growth; mean length‐at‐age data were obtained from back‐calculated fish lengths at the time of formation of successive annual rings in the otoliths.

Fish otolith biomineralization process: first investigations about organic matrix and growth of Triglidae (Scorpaeniformes) otoliths

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2015
Otolith formation involves rhythmic variations in the deposition and size of organic matrix framework and carbonate crystals, resulting in the formation of macroscopic translucent and opaque rings and microscopic zonations (growth increments) (Morales Nin, 2000).
