Trimaran Vessels and Parametric Roll

2011
Parametric roll can occur in case of trimaran vessels, in particular when the outriggers have limited draught and/or limited transversal separation. Due to the significant nonlinearities of the restoring moment and due to the often complex shape of the metacentric height in waves for this type of ships, parametric roll clearly shows quite peculiar ...

Global Strength Assessment of Trimaran Structure

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
This paper presents structural strength assessment of trimaran by global FE-analysis. Global strength analysis using the finite-element method is a powerful tool extensively used to design well-balanced and reliable sea going vessels. This analysis technique is particularly recommended in unconventional and new ship designs.

Aerodynamic characteristics of a hybrid trimaran model

Ocean Engineering, 2007
Ultra fast marine vehicles can substantially benefit from aerodynamic unloading. The subject of this study is aerodynamics of a hybrid trimaran that comprises three wave-piercing planing hulls and a wing-shaped superstructure. This configuration is characterized by high efficiency and good seaworthiness at speeds about twice those of contemporary fast ...

Modeling and Control of Unmanned Trimaran Vehicles

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2010
The modeling and sea trials of the Unmanned Trimaran Vehicles (UTSV) are presented in this paper. For control design, six DOF dynamic modeling of autonomous Trimarans is presented. The detailed mathematical modeling is intended to provide the appropriate framework for a control design which explicitly addressed the six DOF UTV dynamics.

A VARIABLE-GEOMETRY TRIMARAN - Technical Note

International Journal of Small Craft Technology, 2016
Technical Note - To travel fast with reasonably low power requires a vessel to be long and narrow. The requirement for static stability means that unless ballast is used such a vessel will be restricted in vertical height, with adverse consequences for bending strength and for cargo or passenger space.
