Adverse Reactions to Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole
Clinical Infectious Diseases, 1982A comprehensive review is presented of the world literature on adverse reactions to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMZ) since its first use in 1968, when concern was expressed about possible hematologic toxicity. Serious toxicity is a rare event, but when it occurs severe skin lesions and thrombocytopenia/leukopenia are the most likely ...

Thrombocytopenia Secondary to Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole
Southern Medical Journal, 1983Two patients had severe thrombocytopenia while taking trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. The mechanism is uncertain, but probably is related to drug interference with folate metabolism. Recovery can usually be expected upon withdrawal of the medication and institution of folic acid therapy.

Treatment of Gonorrhea with Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1977The following regimens were randomly administered to 271 men with gonococcal urethritis: 4.8 X 10(6) units of aqueous procaine penicillin G intramuscularly plus 1 g of probenecid orally (APPG); nine tablets of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMZ; 720 mg of TMP and 3,600 mg of SMZ), orally as a single dose (TMP-SMZ-9); and 12 tablets of TMP-SMZ (960 ...

Adverse Reactions to Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole
Clinical Reviews in Allergy and Immunology, 1996TMP-SMX is the drug of choice for the treatment and prophylaxis of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) in patients with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). However, the therapeutic benefit of this drug combination is often limited by a high incidence of serious adverse reactions. An increased frequency of adverse reactions to TMP-SMX in HIV-

Potentiation of warfarin by trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole
Urology, 1980Potentiation of warfarin by trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) has been reported occasionally but not in the urologic literature. Three cases are presented in which significant bleeding developed when TMP-SMX was added for the patient already on warfarin anticoagulants.

Antibacterial Action of Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1973Many publications have reported on the mode of action of sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) and trimethoprim (TMP) on the folic-acid metabolism of bacteria. The results were usually performed with model strains and a specific, often synthetic culture media. Therefore, we decided to test a number of different species with commercially available culture media and to

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole-related hallucinations
General Hospital Psychiatry, 2014Although adverse drug reactions are a well-recognized cause of mental status changes in the elderly, antimicrobials are not often implicated. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole-induced hallucinations in immune-competent patient with switching to nitrofurantoin and risperidone, without associated polypharmacy, have not been reported in the literature.
