Interstratification of trioctahedral and dioctahedral smectites through delamination and costacking
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2008Trioctahedral and dioctahedral organosmectites delaminate in 1-octanol to give stable monolayer colloidal dispersions. Addition of acetone to a mixture of these colloidal dispersions yields a composite of the two clays. Layers of the two smectites are interstratified in the composite.

Geochemistry of the Trioctahedral Micas from Degana Granite
Journal of the Geological Society of India, 2007Abstract The composition of micas from Degana granite show significant chemical variation and trioctahedral nature. High Al2O3 and FeO content and a very distinctive depletion in MgO characterize the biotite whereas zinnwaldite has comparatively lower FeO and MgO. The biotites plot in the field of lithian-siderophyllite.

Thermal and spectroscopic analysis of natural trioctahedral chlorites
Journal of Thermal Analysis, 1991A set of seven natural trioctahedral chlorites have been studied. Thermogravimetric techniques and infrared spectroscopy were used to determine the thermal dehydroxylation of the samples. Relationships between the compositions of the chlorites and their thermograms were established. A kinetic analysis was also undertaken.

Interpretation of the composition of trioctahedral micas
Professional Paper, 1960Structural formulas calculated for more than 200 published analyses of phlogopites, biotites, siderophyllites, and lepidomelanes indicate that the additional positive charges carried by trivalent cations proxying for bivalent Mg in the octahedral group of trioctahedral micas are accommodated in two different ways, (1) by a positive charge on the ...

Control of Pore Structure of Trioctahedral Magnesium-Smectite Materials
Chemistry Letters, 2000Abstract Micro-mesoporous smectite-type materials are prepared from water glass and magnesium chloride by a hydrothermal treatment and calcination without template materials. The addition of dialkyldimethyl ammonium chloride during or after the hydrothermal synthesis enlarged their pore volumes and mesopore sizes, due to changes in the ...

Polytypism of Trioctahedral 1:1 Layer Silicates
Clays and Clay Minerals, 1969AbstractPolytypism in trioctahedral 1 : 1 phyllosilicates results from two variable features in the structure. (1) The octabedral cations may occupy the same set of three positions throughout or may alternate regularly between two different sets of positions in successive layers.

Characterisation of synthetic trioctahedral micas by Mössbauer spectroscopy
Hyperfine Interactions, 1998Trioctahedral potassium micas |K}[M3]〈T4〉O10(OH)2 have been synthesized by hydrothermal techniques with various cationic substitutions in the octahedral and the tetrahedral sheet. Taking annite |K}[Fe32+]〈AlSi3〉O10(OH)2 as the reference mineral, [Fe2] was replaced by [Mg2] and [Ni2], 〈Al3+〉 by 〈Fe3+〉 and finally [Fe2+] + 〈Si4+〉 by [Al3+] + 〈Al3 ...

Application of chemical geothermometry to low-temperature trioctahedral chlorites
Clays and Clay Minerals, 2009AbstractLow-temperature chlorites formed in diagenetic to low-grade metamorphic environments generally have greater Si contents and larger numbers of octahedral vacancies, and smaller Fe+Mg contents than higher-grade metamorphic chlorites. The compositional variations are characterized approximately by four end-member components: Al-free trioctahedral ...

Rapid Weathering of a Trioctahedral Mica by the Roots of Ryegrass
Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1992Abstract The weathering of a trioctahedral mica (phlogopite, 2–100‐µm particle size) was investigated in the rhizosphere of ‘Turilo’ Italian ryegrass ( Lolium multiflorum Lam.).

A polarized XANES investigation of Mg-rich trioctahedral micas
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2003In this work we analyse the polarized Mg and Fe K‐edge XANES spectra obtained on single crystals of phlogopite, (sample from Franklin, New Jersey), and of tetra‐ferriphlogopite (sample from Tapira, Alto Paranaiba, Brazil). These crystals show composition close to the end‐members, thus they present similar chemical composition in octahedral and ...
