Biotites Intermediate Between Dioctahedral and Trioctahedral Micas

Clays and Clay Minerals, 1967
AbstractOrange-yellow detrital flakes of biotite are common carriers of potassium and trace elements in soils and clays. Because the flakes differ in degree of alteration and may be derived from different sources, it is difficult to obtain homogeneous material for studies of their physical and chemical properties that may be compared with the original ...

Interstratification of trioctahedral and dioctahedral smectites through delamination and costacking

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2008
Trioctahedral and dioctahedral organosmectites delaminate in 1-octanol to give stable monolayer colloidal dispersions. Addition of acetone to a mixture of these colloidal dispersions yields a composite of the two clays. Layers of the two smectites are interstratified in the composite.

Geochemistry of the Trioctahedral Micas from Degana Granite

Journal of the Geological Society of India, 2007
Abstract The composition of micas from Degana granite show significant chemical variation and trioctahedral nature. High Al2O3 and FeO content and a very distinctive depletion in MgO characterize the biotite whereas zinnwaldite has comparatively lower FeO and MgO. The biotites plot in the field of lithian-siderophyllite.

Thermal and spectroscopic analysis of natural trioctahedral chlorites

Journal of Thermal Analysis, 1991
A set of seven natural trioctahedral chlorites have been studied. Thermogravimetric techniques and infrared spectroscopy were used to determine the thermal dehydroxylation of the samples. Relationships between the compositions of the chlorites and their thermograms were established. A kinetic analysis was also undertaken.

Control of Pore Structure of Trioctahedral Magnesium-Smectite Materials

Chemistry Letters, 2000
Abstract Micro-mesoporous smectite-type materials are prepared from water glass and magnesium chloride by a hydrothermal treatment and calcination without template materials. The addition of dialkyldimethyl ammonium chloride during or after the hydrothermal synthesis enlarged their pore volumes and mesopore sizes, due to changes in the ...

Polytypism of Trioctahedral 1:1 Layer Silicates

Clays and Clay Minerals, 1969
AbstractPolytypism in trioctahedral 1 : 1 phyllosilicates results from two variable features in the structure. (1) The octabedral cations may occupy the same set of three positions throughout or may alternate regularly between two different sets of positions in successive layers.

Characterisation of synthetic trioctahedral micas by Mössbauer spectroscopy

Hyperfine Interactions, 1998
Trioctahedral potassium micas |K}[M3]〈T4〉O10(OH)2 have been synthesized by hydrothermal techniques with various cationic substitutions in the octahedral and the tetrahedral sheet. Taking annite |K}[Fe32+]〈AlSi3〉O10(OH)2 as the reference mineral, [Fe2] was replaced by [Mg2] and [Ni2], 〈Al3+〉 by 〈Fe3+〉 and finally [Fe2+] + 〈Si4+〉 by [Al3+] + 〈Al3 ...

Pressure-induced phase transition in synthetic trioctahedral Rb-mica

Physics and Chemistry of Minerals, 2003
The crystal structure of a synthetic Rb analog of tetra-ferri-annite (Rb–TFA) 1M with the composition Rb0.99Fe2+ 3.03(Fe3+ 1.04 Si2.96)O10.0(OH)2.0 was determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. The structure is homooctahedral (space group C2/m) with M1 and M2 occupied by divalent iron.

Quadrupole Splitting Distribution of Fe2+ in Synthetic Trioctahedral Micas

Hyperfine Interactions, 2002
About 80 different synthetic trioctahedral micas {K}[Fe2+ 3−x Me x ]〈Si,Al,Fe〉4O10(OH)2 with Me = Ni2+, Mg2+, Co2+, Al3+ and Fe3+ have been synthesized by hydrothermal methods and subsequently investigated by 57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. Mossbauer spectra were refined in terms of a quadrupole splitting distribution (QSD) with at least 2 components for ...

Lithium in the interlayer space of synthetic trioctahedral micas

Chemical Geology, 1983
Abstract This paper gives several new and strong arguments in favour of the possibility of fixation of anhydrous lithium in the interlayer space of trioctahedral potassium micas. From the chemical viewpoint Li+ can replace K+, but is located out of the alkaline cation site; it enters pseudo-octahedral cavities limited by the triangular bases of two ...
