The cluster compound In4Ti1.5Mo0.5Mo14O26 containing Mo14 clusters and the new mono- and bi-capped trioctahedral Mo15 and Mo16 clusters: Synthesis, crystal structure, and electrical and magnetic properties. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
International audienceSingle crystals of the new quaternary compd. In4Ti1.5Mo0.5Mo14O26 were obtained by solid state reaction. The crystal structure was detd. by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Mineral Weathering Experiments for Terrestrial Planetary Analogs in a Continuous‐Flow Reactor

open access: yesGeofluids, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Understanding the groundwater environments for ancient Mars and other terrestrial bodies is of great interest for evaluating their habitability. Here, we experimentally tested simulated aqueous alterations of two Mars simulants (variants of MGS‐1) using a continuous‐flow packed bed reactor, reacting with three ionic simulated groundwater analog ...

Oxychlorine Species on Mars: A Review

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 63, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Oxychlorine species (mainly perchlorate and chlorate) have been identified at multiple locations on the surface of Mars by both orbiter and in situ rovers. They have also been found in martian meteorites. Cl‐isotopes in meteoritic minerals suggest that an oxychlorine cycle has been operating on the martian surface for the last ∼4 billion years.

Influence of OH- concentration on the illitization of kaolinite at high pressure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The products of hydrothermal reactions of kaolinite at 300°C and 1000 bars were studied in KOH solutions covering an OH- concentration, [OH-], of 1M to 3.5M. XRD patterns indicated a notable influence of the [OH-] on the reaction.

Palagonitization of Volcanic Rocks in Polar Climates: The Case of Deception Island (Antarctica)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract A detailed study of palagonitization in rocks from Deception Island—one of Antarctica's most active volcanoes—has been performed to advance our understanding of this alteration process. A detailed petrographic (optical and SEM), mineralogical (XRD), and mineral and glass spot geochemistry (EDS and EMP) characterization has been conducted on ...

Interaction of hydrated cations with mica-n (n = 2, 3 and 4) surface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
High charged swelling micas, with layer charge between 2 and 4, have been found to readily swell with water, and complete cation exchange (CEC) can be achieved.

Thermal Reactions of Smectite Minerals at Earthquake Timescales

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract Frictional heating causes a transient temperature rise in fault zones during earthquakes that leads to metamorphic reactions within the fault rocks. The products of these reactions provide potential evidence of earthquakes in both the outcrop and drill core. Clay minerals such as smectites are commonly found in faults.
