GEOMAGNETIC OBSERVATIONS ON MARION ISLAND, GOUGH ISLAND AND TRISTAN DA CUNHA
Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa, 1961In September 1957 the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy recommended that a magnetic secular variation station be established on Tristan da Cunha (37°03' S., 12°18' W.). During the ensuing three years the Union of South Africa has established secular variation stations on no fewer than three of the southern islands, viz.

II. A clinical and parasitological survey of the Tristan da Cunha islanders
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1963Abstract Of the 268 islanders, who were transferred to Britain following the eruption of the volcano, 259 were surveyed during the 4-week period between December, 1961, and January, 1962. History and a full examination including the routine testing of the urine were recorded for each individual at the time.

Chironomidae from Gough, Nightingale and Tristan da Cunha islands
Zootaxa, 2011The resurrection of trans-oceanic dispersal is the most striking aspect of a major shift in historical biogeography toward a more even balance between vicariance and dispersal explanations. Molecular dating of lineage divergences favors oceanic dispersal over tectonic vicariance as an explanation for disjunct distributions in a wide variety of taxa ...

Geochronology of the Tristan da Cunha Group of Islands
Geological Magazine, 1967AbstractA geological synopsis of the three main islands of the Tristan da Cunha group is given and their rate of growth by volcanic processes, and their subsequent erosion, are examined in the light of recent radiometric age data. These data, though few as yet, suggest that each island has a “life cycle” consisting of a brief constructional volcanic ...

The plants and birds of Stoltenhoff and Middle Islands, Tristan da Cunha
Polar Record, 2010ABSTRACTFew scientific observations have been made at Middle and Stoltenhoff Islands, small (ca 10 ha) islands off the north coast of Nightingale Island, Tristan da Cunha. We recorded vascular plants and numbers of breeding birds on both islands in December 2009.

GRAVITY OBSERVATIONS AT MARION ISLAND, TRISTAN DA CUNHA AND GOUGH ISLAND
Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa, 1961Stations were established with a Worden geodetic-type gravimeter on Marion Island, Tristan da Cunha and Gough Island. The gravity values at these stations, viz. two on Tristan da Cunha and one each on Marion and Gough, were determined relative to the international gravity base at Mowbray, Cape Town. Two methods for extending the range of the gravimeter

Vagrant leopard seal at Tristan da Cunha Island, South Atlantic
Polar Biology, 2017Leopard seals Hydrurga leptonyx breed in the Antarctic pack ice, but individuals may wander farther north. Only two records exist from Gough Island (40°S, 10°W) situated 360 km to the SW of Tristan da Cunha Island, in the central South Atlantic Ocean. We report the first record from Tristan da Cunha (37°S, 12°W) in September 2016. The juvenile male was

The origin of finches on Tristan da Cunha and Gough Island, central South Atlantic ocean
Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2013The Nesospiza finches of the Tristan da Cunha archipelago and Rowettia goughensis from Gough Island, 380 km distant, are both derived from tanager-finches (Thraupidae) that colonized the islands by crossing more than 3000 km of ocean from South America. Sequences from two mitochondrial and four nuclear genes indicate that the Patagonian bridled finches
