Mechanism of Dietary Variation of Grazing Yaks on Tibetan Plateau: The Role of Seasonal Heterogeneity of Resources

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
Using DNA metabarcoding, we show that Tibetan yaks are highly selective foragers in the resource‐rich summer but switch to a diverse, generalist diet to survive the harsh winter. This flexible foraging strategy is driven by seasonal plant availability, providing strong support for optimal foraging theory and highlighting the critical need to protect ...

Phylogeographic and Potential Distribution of Wild Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) in Xinjiang: Insights From Chloroplast/Nuclear DNA and Ecological Niche Modeling

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study employed integrated analyses of chloroplast DNA and nuclear genes, which revealed significant divergence in genetic structure between the two genomic compartments in Xinjiang wild apricots, reflecting complex evolutionary processes influenced by natural selection, genetic drift, and gene flow. Population history analyses indicated an absence

Resolving the Taxonomic Enigma of Adonis in Eastern North China: An Integrated Phylogenomic Approach

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
In this study, we demonstrate for the first time that Adonis species from Hebei Province, China are distinct species from A. ramosa, supported by robust phylogenomic analyses (plastid genome data and single copy nuclear genes) and morphological evidence. We reveal a complicated evolutionary history of Adonis species in China. The confirmation of Adonis

Identification of Bread and Durum Wheats from their Diploid Ancestral Species Based on Chloroplast DNA

open access: yesAgriculture, 2020
Species that have been identified as the genome donors to cultivated polyploid durum and bread wheats (Triticum durum L. and T. aestivum L., respectively) are potential gene sources for the breeding of these two crops.

An Improved molecular tool for distinguishing monoecious and dioedious Hydrilla [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Two biotypes of hydrilla [Hydrilla verticillata(L.f.) Royle] occur in the United States, a dioecious type centered in the southeast and a monoecious type in the central Atlantic and northeastern states.

Unveiling Diet Preferences and Their Nutritional Drivers Through Metabarcoding: The Case of Alpine Marmot (Marmota marmota L.) in High Altitude Grazed Pastures

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
The alpine marmot (Marmota marmota), a crucial component of alpine ecosystems, serves both as a key player in the food chain and as an ‘ecosystem engineer.’ Employing DNA metabarcoding of fecal samples, this study investigated the diet composition and foraging strategies of four alpine marmot colonies across diverse alpine pasture ecosystems throughout

Asplenium paucipinnatum (Aspleniaceae), a new fern species from southern Thailand, based on morphological and molecular data [PDF]

open access: yesPhytoKeys
Asplenium paucipinnatum, a new fern species from Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, is described. Morphologically, it closely resembles A. micantifrons in having short-creeping and radial rhizome steles, 1-pinnate laminae, deeply incised pinnae on the ...

Terniopsis chanthaburiensis (Podostemaceae), a new record for China and its complete plastid genome

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 3, March 2026.
The genus Terniopsis consists of plants that have not been thoroughly studied, with many species remaining taxonomically unresolved. In this study, Terniopsis chanthaburiensis is reported as a new record of China based on morphological traits. Then, we assembled and annotated its chloroplast genome based on genome skimming data.
