Power and limitations of the chloroplast trnL (UAA) intron for plant DNA barcoding [PDF]
DNA barcoding should provide rapid, accurate and automatable species identifications by using a standardized DNA region as a tag. Based on sequences available in GenBank and sequences produced for this study, we evaluated the resolution power of the whole chloroplast trnL (UAA) intron (254-767 bp) and of a shorter fragment of this intron (the P6 loop ...

Michaelmoelleria (Gesneriaceae), a new lithophilous dwelling genus and species with zigzag corolla tube from southern Vietnam [PDF]
Michaelmoelleria, a new genus from southern Vietnam is described with a single species, M. vietnamensis. The new genus is morphologically most similar to Deinostigma and Tribounia but it differs from the latter two by having four fertile stamens. Nuclear

Morphology and molecules support the new monotypic genus Fenghwaia (Rhamnaceae) from south China [PDF]
Fenghwaia, a new monotypic genus, along with the new species Fenghwaia gardeniicarpa, is described from Guangdong Province, China. The combined features of inferior ovary, cylindrical drupaceous fruits and orbicular and dorsiventrally-compressed seeds ...

We tested the phylogenetic utility of three chloroplast DNA loci, i.e. the trnL(UAA) intron, trnL(UAA)-F(GAA) intergenic spacer (IGS), and trnV(UAC) intron, across thirteen native Oxytropis species. Our objective was to determine whether any of these chloroplast DNA markers could be beneficial to figure out phylogenetic relationships among Oxytropis ...

The use of the hypervariable P8 region of trnL(UAA) intron for identification of orchid species: Evidence from restriction site polymorphism analysis. [PDF]
The P8 stem-loop region of the trnL intron, which is known to be hypervariable in size with multiple repeat motifs and created difficulties in alignment, is always excluded in phylogenetic as well as barcode analyses.

Evaluation of variations in plastid DNA non-coding regions in selected species of the genus Solanum
The diversity of three non-coding plastid DNA loci (trnL/trnF spacer, trnV/16SrRNA spacer, trnL/trnL intron) was assessed in 16 Solanum L. species (135 individuals).

Relationships within Apocynaceae s.l. (Apocynaceae s. str., Periplocaceae, and Asclepiadaceae) were investigated by maximum parsimony analysis of morphological and molecular sequence data. Sequences of the plastid trnL intron and trnL-F spacer for 152 accessions for representatives of all major tribes were included in this study; 96% of these sequences

A phylogeny of the European gentians inferred from chloroplast trnL (UAA) intron sequences [PDF]
Phylogenetic relationships between the European species of the genus Gentiana L. (Gentianaceae) were inferred from chloroplast trnL (UAA) intron sequence data. The phylogeny obtained is largely in accordance with the classification of species into sections Gentiana, Megalanthe and Calathianae.

We screened for polymorphisms of the non-coding region of plastid DNA in plum trees. Sequencing data from the trnL-trnF chloroplast region were used to reveal a pattern of diversity, establish phylogenetic relationships, and test the selection pressure or evolutionary demography scenario for plastome DNA.
