Investigating Anthropogenic and Social Influences on Diet of Semi‐Urban Vervet Monkeys Using DNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
We used eDNA metabarcoding of faecal samples to quantify the dietary composition of two vervet monkey populations in a semi‐urban environment in South Africa over a 4‐month period, and compared these results with visual observations. We found that both methods yielded similar results, but eDNA metabarcoding revealed a greater diversity of consumed taxa.

Herbariomics and the peculiar case of Alisma wahlenbergii (Alismataceae)

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 1, Febuary 2026.
Abstract Species identification and delimitation in aquatic plants can be challenging due to their often simple, plastic, and convergent morphology. This has led to varying taxonomic opinions in many genera, including Alisma. One debated case is the narrowly endemic A. wahlenbergii, which occurs submerged in the Baltic Sea region.

Systematics of Simplicia Kirk (Poaceae, Agrostidinae) – an endemic, threatened New Zealand grass genus

open access: yesPhytoKeys, 2016
A new species of the New Zealand endemic grass Simplicia, S. felix is described. The new species is segregated from and compared with S. buchananii and S. laxa. Simplicia felix occurs mostly in lightly shaded areas of seasonally dry alluvial forest.

Phylogeny of Miliusa (Magnoliales: Annonaceae: Malmeoideae: Miliuseae), with descriptions of two new species from Malesia

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2013
The molecular phylogeny of Miliusa (Annonaceae) is reconstructed, with 27 (of ca. 50) species included, using a combination of seven plastid markers (rbcL exon, trnL intron, trnL-F spacer, matK exon, ndhF exon, psbA-trnH spacer, and ycf1 exon ...

Generic status of Winitia (Annonaceae, Miliuseae) reaffirmed by molecular phylogenetic analysis, including a new species and a new combination from Thailand

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2020
The generic status of Winitia Chaowasku (Annonaceae Juss., Miliuseae Hook.f. & Thomson) is reaffirmed by an extensive phylogenetic reconstruction using seven plastome regions (matK, ndhF, rbcL, ycf1 exons; trnL intron; psbA-trnH, trnL-trnF intergenic ...

Genetic diversity and phylogenetic analyses of Vitex agnus castus L. populations using ISSR-PCR and chloroplast DNA trnL intron and trnL-F sequences

open access: yesNova Biotechnologica et Chimica, 2022
In this study, genetic diversity and phylogenetic analysis of some Vitex agnus-castus L. populations were conducted based on ISSR-PCR and chloroplast DNA trnL intron, and trnL-F sequence analyses. Vitex agnus-castus populations were detected in Aydın province, Turkey.

Comparative Plastome Analysis of Artocarpus Species in China: Insight Into Adaptive Evolution and Mutational Hotspot Regions

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
The initial comparative plastome analysis of 10 Artocarpus species in China lays the groundwork for regional evolutionary research. Investigated of inverted repeat (lR) boundary variations, particularly the incomplete duplication of the ycf1 gene, elucidating mechanisms underlying genomic divergence.

Phylogeny of Muhlenbergia subg. Pseudosporobolus, including M. spatha (Poaceae, Chloridoideae, Cynodonteae, Muhlenbergiinae) now found in Zacatecas, Mexico

open access: yesPhytoKeys, 2018
Muhlenbergia spatha, previously known only from near the type locality in San Luis Potosí, is reported from two localities in Zacatecas, Mexico. Historically, botanists have overlooked this diminutive annual. To clarify affinities of M.

Characterization of the Omnivorous Lygus lineolaris Diet in a Strawberry Field by Metataxonomy

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study employs metataxonomy to reveal the extensive omnivorous diet of Lygus lineolaris in a strawberry field, identifying 475 host taxa and confirming active ingestion across plant and prey sources. We introduce a novel coefficient of omnivory, demonstrating the species' strong herbivorous bias while highlighting its dietary flexibility and ...
