Morphological and molecular diagnosis of two new species of Trypanosoma Gruby, 1843 infecting South African cordylid lizards (Squamata: Cordylidae: Cordylinae), Trypanosoma (Squamatrypanum) ndumoensis n. sp. and Trypanosoma (Trypanosoma) tokoloshi n. sp.

open access: yesJournal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, Volume 70, Issue 4, July/August 2023., 2023
Abstract Despite reptile trypanosomes forming a large group, the majority of species descriptions are data deficient, lacking key characteristic data and supporting molecular data. Reptile hosts show potential to facilitate transmission of zoonotic trypanosomiases and offer key information to understanding the genus of Trypanosoma.

Rare form of mite dermatitis

open access: yesКлинический разбор в общей медицине, 2021
Acariasis is a group of common disorders caused by mite infestation of the skin. Trombiculosis (thrombidiasis) is one of the rare seasonal (summer) types of dermatitis, caused by the ectoparasitized larvae (chiggers) of harvest mites in the skin.

Host‐related and environmental factors influence long‐term ectoparasite infestation dynamics of mouse lemurs in northwestern Madagascar

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Primatology, Volume 85, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
The study revealed significant yearly changes in ectoparasite infestation for (a) Haemaphysalis spp. (ticks), (b) Schoutendenichia microcebi (mites), (c) Lemurpediculus spp. (lice), and (d) ectoparasite species richness. Displayed is the proportion of ectoparasite occurrence (yes: in black, no: in gray, a–c) and the distribution of the ectoparasite ...

Cross‐reactivity between tick and wasp venom can contribute to frequent wasp sensitization in patients with the α‐Gal syndrome

open access: yesClinical and Translational Allergy, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2022., 2022
Abstract Background α‐Gal syndrome (AGS) is a food allergy with severe delayed allergic reactions, mediated by IgE‐reactivity to galactose‐α1,3‐galactose (α‐Gal). AGS is strongly associated with tick bites. An increased incidence of venom sensitization has been found in AGS patients. Here, we evaluated the frequency of wasp sensitization in Swedish AGS

Habitat Type-Based Assemblage and Distribution Prediction of Small Mammals and Chigger Mites (Acari: Trombiculidae) in Chuncheon City, Republic of Korea. [PDF]

open access: yesAnimals (Basel)
While urbanization leads to habitat loss for medium and large mammals, small mammals can survive in fragmented habitats. As they are known to be the primary hosts of chigger mites (Acari: Trombiculidae) that transmit scrub typhus, their habitat can be ...

First record of trombiculosis due to the chigger mite kepkatrombicula desaleri in domestic goats in bulgaria and treatment attemptsfirst record of trombiculosis due to the chigger mite kepkatrombicula desaleri in domestic goats in bulgaria and treatment attempts [PDF]

open access: yesKafkas Universitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Dergisi, 2023
Trombiculosis is a parasitic skin disease caused by larvae of mites from the family Trombiculidae (chiggers). In general, larvae provoke dermatitis.

The mitogenome of Halotydeus destructor (Tucker) and its relationships with other trombidiform mites as inferred from nucleotide sequences and gene arrangements

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 11, Issue 20, Page 14162-14174, October 2021., 2021
We report the complete mitogenome sequence of the redlegged earth mite, Halotydeus destructor (Tucker). We used Bayesian phylogenetic analyses to contextualize the relationship of H. destructor with other trombidiform mites. Phylogenies were inferred from protein‐coding and rRNA genes using nucleotide sequences and a novel characterization of gene ...

On the life cycle and parasitism of the trombiculid mite Hirsutiella hexasternalis (Kudryashova, 1998) (Acariformes, Trombiculidae)

open access: yesSoil Organisms, 2018
Post-larval life cycle, larval morphology and histology of the sites of the larvae feeding were investigated in the trombiculid mite Hirsutiella hexasternalis (Kudryashova, 1998) based on the material firstly collected from West Siberia (Tyumen province)
