Phytoplankton functional groups associated with the trophic state of tropical reservoirs [PDF]

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia
: Aim The study investigated functional groups representing reservoirs of different trophic states, identifying eutrophication indicators. Methods Water samples were collected to evaluate physical and chemical characteristics and the phytoplankton ...

Diversity effects on productivity are stronger within than between trophic groups in the arbuscular mycorrhizal symbiosis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundThe diversity of plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) has been experimentally shown to alter plant and AMF productivity. However, little is known about how plant and AMF diversity interact to shape their respective productivity ...

Taxonomy, ecology and fishery of Lake Victoria haplochromine trophic groups

open access: yes, 1990
Based on ecological and morphological features, the 300 or more haplochromine cichlid species of Lake Victoria are classified into fifteen (sub)trophic groups. A key to the trophic groups, mainly based on external morphological characters, is presented. Of each trophic group a description is given comprising data on taxonomy, ecology and fishery.

Changes in Trophic Groups of Protists With Conversion of Rainforest Into Rubber and Oil Palm Plantations. [PDF]

open access: yesFront Microbiol, 2019
Protists, abundant but enigmatic single-celled eukaryotes, are important soil microbiota providing numerous ecosystem functions. We employed high-throughput sequencing of environmental DNA, targeting the V4 region of the 18S rRNA gene, to characterize ...

Global synthesis of effects of plant species diversity on trophic groups and interactions [PDF]

open access: yesNature Plants, 2020
Numerous studies have demonstrated that plant species diversity enhances ecosystem functioning in terrestrial ecosystems, including diversity effects on insects (herbivores, predators and parasitoids) and plants. However, the effects of increased plant diversity across trophic levels in different ecosystems and biomes have not yet been explored on a ...

Monitoring of Long-Lasting Effects of Fumigation with Dimethyl Disulfide (DMDS) on Root-Gall Index, Root-Knots, Other Nematode Populations, and Crop Yield over Three Protected Cucumber Crops in Bulgaria

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
In order to evaluate the long-term effect of the new fumigant DMDS and its potential to be a part of IPM of root-knot nematodes, a two-year experiment was conducted on cucumber in a greenhouse in Bulgaria.

Coupling low and high trophic levels models: Towards a pathways-orientated approach for end-to-end models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Existing models of marine ecosystems address specific issues related to the bottom-up forcing of production or to the top-down effects of fishing on a limited range of the trophic spectrum.

Mycological complex of poplars in Serbia

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2015
Poplars are fast-growing broadleaved tree species inhabiting river banks and sites with accessible water supplies. Vegetative propagation makes them suitable for establishing highly productive plantations along big rivers and in flooded plains.

An assessment of the trophic structure of the Bay of Biscay continental shelf food web: Comparing estimates derived from an ecosystem model and isotopic data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Comparing outputs of ecosystem models with estimates derived from experimental and observational approaches is important in creating valuable feedback for model construction, analyses and validation.

Changes in Nematode Communities and Functional Diversity With the Conversion of Rainforest Into Rubber and Oil Palm Plantations

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2019
Focusing on nematodes and their well-developed indices of community, ecosystem structure and function, we investigated the effects of the conversion of rainforest into rubber and oil palm plantations in Sumatra, Indonesia.
