Effects of biodiversity on the functioning of trophic groups and ecosystems

Nature, 2006
Over the past decade, accelerating rates of species extinction have prompted an increasing number of studies to reduce species diversity experimentally and examine how this alters the efficiency by which communities capture resources and convert those into biomass.

Protection outcomes for fish trophic groups across a range of management regimes

Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2021
Understanding how Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) improve conservation outcomes across anthropogenic pressures can improve the benefits derived from them. Effects of protection for coral reefs in the western and central Indian Ocean were assessed using size-spectra analysis of fish and the relationships of trophic group biomass with human population ...

The response of carabids to landscape simplification differs between trophic groups

Oecologia, 2004
We studied the response of carabid species richness and density to landscape simplification (measured as percentage cover of non-crop habitat surrounding each study site) in 36 wheat fields using pitfall traps. Carabids were divided to trophic groups following the literature.

Historical invasion rates vary among insect trophic groups [PDF]

open access: possibleCurrent Biology
Globalization has spread thousands of invasive insect species into new world regions,1,2,3 causing severe losses in ecosystem services. Previous work proposed that plant invasions facilitate insect invasions through the creation of niches for non-native herbivores.3,4,5,6 Despite the impact of insect invasions, a comprehensive understanding is lacking ...

Land-use effects on trophic niche variation across taxonomic groups and trophic levels (TrophNiche)

2023
This document contains the proposal for the project TrophNiche, funded by the DFG for the period 2023-2026. Summary: The trophic niches of consumers depend on the spectrum of food resources available in the landscape. They are linked in food webs, with cascading effects from lower to higher levels. TrophNiche aims to calculate and compare the effect of

Trophic functional groups and trophic levels of the macrobenthic community at the eastern tidal flat of Lingkun Island, China

Acta Ecologica Sinica, 2008
Abstract A total of 33 taxa, including 21 families, 8 classes and 7 phyla, were found at the eastern tidal flat of Lingkun Island, Wenzhou Bay. Most of them were mollusks, crustaceans and polychaetes. The species numbers found at 3 tidal flats (high, middle and low) were 25, 30 and 14, respectively.

Effects of vegetation coverage on the spatial distribution of soil nematode trophic groups

Frontiers of Biology in China, 2008
By the methods of classic statistics and geostatistics, this paper examined the spatial variability of soil nematodes and their trophic groups in bare and fallow plots at Shenyang Experimental Station of Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The results showed that soil pH had a negative effect on the plant-parasitic nematodes in both bare and fallow ...

[Treatment of torpid trophic ulcers in patients of the older age group.]

Advances in gerontology = Uspekhi gerontologii, 2020
Chronic ulcers or non-healing ulcers are more common in the elderly (20 out of 1 000 people), whose age is closer to 80 years. The application of the principles of regenerative medicine, actively developing, in the treatment of such diseases, is based on the use of both autologous blood derivatives and autologous mononuclear cells.

Ethological-trophic groups of bivalve mollusks and their distribution in the Phanerozoic

Paleontological Journal, 2006
Based on their adaptations to substrates, degree of mobility, and feeding modes, bivalve mollusks are subdivided into 30 ethological-trophic groups. This paper presents an account of their morphological characteristics, distribution in the Phanerozoic, and taxonomic changes through time.

Use of the thermotolerant Aeromonas group for the trophic state classification of freshwaters

Water Research, 1989
Abstract Data obtained from 68 lakes surveyed in the United States showed a highly significant correlation between the densities of a specific group of autochthonous, heterotrophic bacteria, thermotolerant aeromonads and the trophic state of fresh waters.
