When Calves Get Vulnerable, Ocelots (Leopardus pardalis) Get Bold: A Camera Trap Record of Opportunistic Foraging in a Fragmented Landscape

We report the first confirmed record of an ocelot (Leopardus pardalis) dragging a newborn calf in a degraded forest fragment of southeastern Brazil. Using camera trap records, we reveal an opportunistic foraging event involving a vulnerable domestic prey within a highly fragmented landscape.

Morphological and biomechanical adaptations of larval mandibles in Trichoptera (Insecta)

Mandible morphology differs between predators and grazers: predators show pointed incisors, grazers sharp edges and setae. Mechanical properties depend on cuticle tanning, not elemental reinforcement. Functional mandible types reflect feeding strategies, with predators specialized for prey capture and grazers for scraping and collecting.

Trophic Ecology of Loggerhead Turtles (Caretta caretta) in Southern Brazil: Insights From Stable Isotopes

ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the trophic ecology of loggerhead turtles recorded stranded along the Paraná coast in southern Brazil. Carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes were analysed in muscle tissues from 20 loggerhead turtles and in 69 specimens representing 12 prey species (molluscs, crustaceans and teleost fishes).
