DataSheet1_Effects of monosaccharides including rare sugars on proliferation of Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites in vitro.zip

open access: yes, 2023
Entamoeba histolytica is a parasitic protozoan with roles in pathogenicity of intestinal amoebiasis. E. histolytica trophozoites lack functional mitochondria and their energy production depends mostly on glycolysis.

Intestinal Parasites in a Rural Highland Tourist Community of Nepal: Diversity, Prevalence, and Associated Factors in Humans and Livestock

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
This cross‑sectional observational study assessed the prevalence and diversity of intestinal parasitic infections in humans and livestock in a rural highland community of Nepal. Intestinal parasites were detected in 22% of human participants and 73% of livestock, with overlapping parasite genera observed within the same households.

Hypoadrenocorticism‐like syndrome in a cat with Tritrichomonas foetus infection: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, Volume 67, Issue 6, Page 569-573, June 2026.
A reduced sodium: potassium ratio is an uncommon finding in cats, and is typically associated with conditions such as hypoadrenocorticism, severe renal and cardiovascular diseases, cavitary effusion and certain non‐parasitic gastrointestinal diseases.

Omeprazole as a Novel Treatment Option for Giardiasis in Cats

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
In this study, cats with giardiasis were allocated to omeprazole, metronidazole, secnidazole or placebo groups and monitored from day 0 to 14. Omeprazole achieved a reduction in Giardia cyst shedding comparable to metronidazole and also demonstrated faster clinical improvement, indicating a potential therapeutic advantage.

Ultrastructural alterations of trophozoites assessed by transmission electron microscopy.

open access: yes, 2013
In panels A and B, E. histolytica trophozoites were incubated in: CM of CaCo2 cells not exposed to the pathogens (a); CM from cells exposed to PFA-fixed trophozoites (b); CM from cells exposed to ETEC (c) or incubated with 10 ng/ml of CECE-HBD2 (d) and ...

Intestinal Parasitic Infections in Red Pandas From Community Forests of Eastern Nepal

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
Wild red pandas (Ailurus fulgens) from community forests of eastern Nepal showed a high intestinal parasite burden, with 66.7% of faecal samples testing positive. Helminthic infections (75%) were more prevalent than protozoan infections (50%), and mixed gastrointestinal infections occurred in 45.8% of individuals.

Active suppression of intestinal epithelial cell inflammatory transcription by “fit” Giardia intestinalis trophozoites.

open access: yes, 2023
(A) qPCR of host response genes in IECs after MOI1.2 or MOI10 DMEM/F-12 conditioned G. intestinalis trophozoites infection (1 h and 3 h p.i.) (n = 3 biological replicates ± SD).

Early‐life Giardia infection and behavioural dysregulation in two dogs: A case‐based exploration of the gut microbiome–brain axis

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract This case report describes two dogs exhibiting severe behavioural problems, both diagnosed with early‐life giardiasis and raised in environments lacking adequate maternal care and socialisation. Both dogs experienced chronic gastrointestinal and dermatological issues, as well as prolonged early‐life stress, which likely contributed to ...

Curcuma longa rhizome extract and Curcumin reduce the adhesion of Acanthamoeba triangularis trophozoites and cysts in polystyrene plastic surface and contact lens

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Drugs and Drug Resistance, 2020
Curcuma longa and Curcumin have been documented to have a wide spectrum of pharmacological effects, including anti-Acanthamoeba activity. Hence, this study sought to explore the anti-adhesion activity of C. longa extract and Curcumin against Acanthamoeba
