Scenario Analysis of Electricity Demand Growth with Rural Electrification for the Evaluation of the Reliability and Sustainability of an off‐Grid Microgrid System: A Case Study in Lao PDR†

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
In order to design an optimal off‐grid microgrid, understanding the factors influencing demand growth over time is essential to ensure the reliability and sustainability of an off‐grid microgrid, particularly in rural areas. This study aims to identify these influencing factors through surveys and interviews to assess future demand growth following the

An observational study of a circular gust front over the Yangtze Delta, China

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
Concentric gust fronts are formed when a thunderstorm's downdraft reaches the ground and the outflow from the cold pool spreads uniformly outwards into the surrounding warm and humid air mass. Observational evidence presented here show the case of narrow‐band echoes forming a ring around a thunderstorm.

Host species and age‐specific variation on Hepatozoon prevalence and its effect on body condition in two Neotropical crocodiles

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Many populations of species belonging to the order Crocodilia are threatened due to illegal trafficking, indiscriminate hunting, and habitat loss and degradation affecting crocodilian health and parasitic load. Although several studies have revealed that crocodiles, caimans, and alligators are frequently infected by Hepatozoon spp., the results from ...

Precipitation and female experience are major determinants of the breeding performance of Canarian houbara bustards

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Precipitation is one of the main triggers of reproduction in desert‐breeding birds. The unpredictability of rainfall patterns in arid environments has led species to adapt their breeding effort to episodes of abundant food after rainfall. The response is not the same for all individuals in a population, and may vary especially with the age and ...

An Analysis of Global Timber Markets [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents a model of global timber markets that captures the evolution of a broad array of forest resources and timber market margins over time. These margins include the inaccessible northern and tropical margins, plantation establishment, and

Global patterns and gaps in the study of terrestrial birds and mammals' use of freshwater sources: a mapping review

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Water availability strongly influences the ecology of terrestrial birds and mammals. It will likely play an increasing role as a limiting factor as climate change and human demand make water availability scarcer. However, we lack a knowledge synthesis describing our current understanding of the use of water sources, particularly for wildlife hydration.
