Background Guide for the Calculation of Land Carbon Stocks in the Biofuels Sustainability Scheme Drawing on the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories [PDF]
This Guide covers the calculation of carbon-stock changes in soil and above- and below-ground vegetation due to land use conversion in support of Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, particularly for ...

A global evaluation of forest interior area dynamics using tree cover data from 2000 to 2012 [PDF]
Context Published maps of global tree cover derived from Landsat data have indicated substantial changes in forest area from 2000 to 2012. The changes can be arranged in different patterns, with different conse- quences for forest fragmentation.

Tropical climate and vegetation changes during Heinrich Event 1: a model-data comparison [PDF]
Abrupt climate changes from 18 to 15 thousand years before present (kyr BP) associated with Heinrich Event 1 (HE1) had a strong impact on vegetation patterns not only at high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, but also in the tropical regions around ...

Forests and Landscapes of Dominican Republic [PDF]
Aims: This, in conjunction with the diversity of the substrates and the fact that the island is home to the highest mountains in the Caribbean and with a high rate of endemic species, allows them to be differentiated into three major groups –dry forest ...

Impact of Canopy Openness on Forest Regeneration and Forest Soil Nutrients. [PDF]
This study examines how canopy openness influences tree regeneration and soil nutrient levels in a community‐managed forest in Nepal. The findings highlight the importance of light conditions in silvicultural planning for sustainable forest management.

Using expert elicitation to predict feral cat, Felis catus, responses to management
We generated estimates of lethal feral cat management success for 864 scenarios, only 71 lethal management scenarios met a population reduction target of 57%. Cat‐targeted poison baits, in dry conditions and arid areas were most successful. Feral cat management requires continued adaptive strategies to reduce cat impacts.

Continental-scale patterns and climatic drivers of fruiting phenology: A quantitative Neotropical review [PDF]
Changes in the life cycle of organisms (i.e. phenology) are one of the most widely used early-warning indicators of climate change, yet this remains poorly understood throughout the tropics. We exhaustively reviewed any published and unpublished study on

Revealing patterns of endemism in the transatlantic family Chelodesmidae (Polydesmida: Diplopoda)
Abstract With fossil records dating back to the Silurian/Late Ordovician, millipedes stand out as one of the earliest terrestrial animal groups. Their limited vagility and high endemism make them valuable tools for formulating and testing biogeographic hypotheses, including those related to macro‐vicariance events.
