Global small solutions to a tropical climate model without thermal diffusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We obtain the global well-posedness of classical solutions to a tropical climate model with only the dissipation of the first baroclinic model of the velocity (−ηΔv) under small initial data.

Phytoplankton influences on tropical climate [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2002
We study the effect of ocean biology on tropical surface temperatures using a simplified coupled atmosphere‐ocean model. It is shown that moderate phytoplankton blooms, occuring e.g. during La Niña conditions, lead to a vertical redistribution of heat in the surface layers and an associated surface layer warming of about 20 W/m2.

Advancing Soil Organic Carbon Prediction: A Comprehensive Review of Technologies, AI, Process‐Based and Hybrid Modelling Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in soil organic carbon (SOC) quantification using remote sensing, proximal soil sensing, AI (ML and DL), and biogeochemical modelling. Integrating diverse data sources and models improves SOC prediction accuracy. Key priorities include enhancing data availability, refining models, incorporating microbial processes, and ...

Moisture Harvesting by the Structure Regulation of Hygroscopic Hydrogel for Energy and Water Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Hygroscopic hydrogels are capable of utilizing the moisture from air, which can transfer the gaseous water to liquid by a surface phase transition. Taking advantage of this water, sustainable water production, thermal management, and electricity generation can be realized.

Simulated Changes in Tropical Cyclone Size, Accumulated Cyclone Energy and Power Dissipation Index in a Warmer Climate

open access: yesOceans, 2021
Detection, attribution and projection of changes in tropical cyclone intensity statistics are made difficult from the potentially decreasing overall storm frequency combined with increases in the peak winds of the most intense storms as the climate warms.

Impacts of Vertical Structure of Large-Scale Vertical Motion in Tropical Climate: Moist Static Energy Framework

open access: yes, 2016
Interactions between cumulus convection and its large-scale environment have been recognized as crucial to the understanding of tropical climate and its variability.

Impacts of geopolitics and policy on Latin American biodiversity and water resources

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract Latin America is a major agricultural producer with important natural resources. Efforts have been made to protect sensitive areas but are hindered by agricultural trade disruptions outside the control of individual countries due to globally integrated crop markets.

Regulation of sucrose synthase and its association with grain filling in spermine-treated rice plant under water deficit

open access: yesJournal of Plant Interactions, 2019
Spermine (SPM) was utilized to investigate its impact on the accumulation of sucrose synthase (SUS) and the role of SUS as a predictor of sink strength of rice under cyclic water stress.

Local well-posedness for the tropical climate model with fractional velocity diffusion

open access: yes, 2016
This paper deals with the Cauchy problem for tropical climate model with the fractional velocity diffusion which was derived by Frierson-Majda-Pauluis in [16]. We establish the local well-posedness of strong solutions to this generalized model.

Do outgrower schemes enhance technology adoption and productivity? Evidence from maize farmers in Northern Ghana

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
Abstract Nucleus outgrower schemes are contractual arrangements where well‐resourced large‐scale farmers (nucleus farmers) are empowered by development support agencies to take charge of smallholder farmers, by providing them with market access and the necessary training on agronomic practices and farm inputs for production.
