The Amazon River‐Breeze Circulation Limits Detection of Aerosol‐Cloud Interactions in Warm Clouds
Abstract Increased aerosol concentrations can brighten low‐level clouds and extend their lifetimes, but aerosol–cloud interactions (ACI) remain highly uncertain and difficult to quantify. We show that part of this uncertainty is caused by topographical influences on clouds, that is, those arising from land–water contrasts.

Abstract Current precipitation analysis focuses on extreme events or total amounts but misses a critical question: when does the majority of precipitation occur during the year? We introduce a framework that separates two fundamental aspects of precipitation patterns: how many of the wettest individual days contribute to annual totals versus what is ...

Escalating Extreme River Discharge Events Driven by Precipitation Changes in the Yangtze River Basin
Abstract Extreme river discharge events (ERDEs) directly induce catastrophic floods, posing severe threats to human life and infrastructure. Understanding the precipitation patterns that precede ERDEs is critical for identifying early flood warnings. This study investigated the spatiotemporal characteristics of 3‐hourly ERDEs across the Yangtze River ...

Global Urban‐Rural Differences in Precipitation: Cities See More Light Rain But Milder Extremes
Abstract Ample evidence has shown that cities modulate regional hydrometeorology and hydroclimatology. Because different precipitation intensities have distinct hydrological and societal impacts, with light precipitation helping to alleviate urban heat and extreme precipitation often driving flood risks, it is important to understand whether and how ...
