Morphophenological characterization of ornamental ginger and selection for landscape use

open access: yesOrnamental Horticulture, 2018
Many species of Zingiber have great ornamental potential, due to durability and exotic appearance of the inflorescences. Despite its large phenotypic variability, they are scarcely exploited or not yet exploited regarding the ornamental potential.

Feeders and Flowers: A comparison of hummingbird activity at artificial feeders and flowers in Ecuador

open access: yes, 2023
Under the direction of Dr. Renee Godard Many tropical plant species depend on hummingbirds as their primary pollinator, and it is thought that competition for this flower nectar has been a driver for hummingbird speciation.

Evaluation of sunn hemp performance and nutritive value in Maine, USA

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Sunn hemp (Crotalaria juncea L. and Crotalaria ochroleuca G. Don) was evaluated as a warm‐season legume to mitigate the “summer slump” in Maine's forage production caused by heat and moisture deficit stress. Methods This study compared three cultivars: “Crescent Sunn,” “Loei,” and “Red Mini,” at 60 and 90 days after seeding over the

Ants as flower visitors : floral ant-repellence and the impact of ant scent-marks on pollinator behaviour

open access: yes, 2012
As flower visitors, ants rarely benefit a plant, commonly disrupting pollination by deterring other flower visitors, or stealing nectar. This thesis examines three aspects of ant-flower interactions, focusing on the occurrence of floral traits that ...

Integrated high‐throughput phenomics and transcriptomics uncover the transcriptional mechanisms underlying rice responses to elevated CO2 concentration and cadmium stress

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Developing crop varieties with reduced cadmium (Cd) accumulation under elevated carbon dioxide (eCO2) requires hub gene identification and elucidation of its transcriptional mechanisms. Here, we acquired high‐throughput phenotyping of the rice cultivar Nipponbare across six key developmental stages under Cd stress and three eCO2 concentrations.

Symbiotic Germination Technique of an Endangered Epiphytic Orchid Dendrobium sinominutiflorum: A Promising Conservation Application 濒危附生兰科植物勐海石斛 (Dendrobium sinominutiflorum) 的共生萌发技术:一种具有应用前景的保护策略

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, EarlyView.
We developed an effective ex‐situ conservation approach for an endangered orchid species, Dendrobium sinominutiflorum. A compatible fungal strain Tulasnella sp. was obtained by using in‐situ seed baiting technique. The Symbiotic germination with Tulasnella sp. significantly promotes seed germination and seedling growth.
