Microbiome Insights Into Zoonotic Risk at Wildlife–Human Interfaces in a Transitioning Landscape in Thailand

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study shows how ecological transitions, such as reforestation in Southeast Asia, reshape host–microbe–pathogen dynamics at the wildlife–domestic interface. By integrating long‐read microbiome sequencing, ecological gradients, and statistical and network analysis, we identify host species that disproportionately contribute to pathogen diversity and

Ecology and Brain Size Drive Feeding Innovations in Birds

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Larger‐brained birds exhibit higher feeding innovation rates, but ecological factors shape different forms of innovation in distinct ways. Across 955 bird species, phylogenetic path analyses revealed that migration type and feeding strategy mediate the effects of brain size and climate on feeding innovations, illustrating how cognition and ecology ...

Aligning Transnational due Diligence: The EU Deforestation Regulation and Brazil's Fragmented Beef Governance

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Transnational due diligence regulations, such as the European Union Regulation on Deforestation‐Free Products (EUDR), are reshaping sustainability governance by transforming voluntary norms into binding global rules. Yet, their effectiveness depends on how well they align with domestic governance systems and on the power asymmetries that ...

Costs of foraging in a dry tropical environment

open access: yes, 2010
This study evaluates the costs associated with foraging for birds in a savannah woodland area in central Nigeria. Specifically, it looks at the following questions: 1) how does seasonal variability in food and water availability affect the value of resources to birds in dry environments? 2) Does proximity to water affect foraging decisions?

The Late Agricultural Development of Central Arabian Oases—Archaeobotanical and Archaeozoological Studies of the al‐Kharj Oasis

open access: yesArabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While oasis settlements emerged during the Bronze Age in Eastern and Northern Arabia, the settlement process in Central Arabia was different. Excavations at al‐Yamāma—main ancient settlement of the al‐Kharj oasis (Riyadh Province, KSA)—suggest that the latter did not emerge before the second half of the first millennium BCE.
