Understanding marine biodiversity patterns and drivers: The fall of Icarus

open access: yesMarine Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Biodiversity patterns are fundamental in our understanding of the distribution of life, ecosystem function, and conservation. In this concept analysis, A survey of the existing knowledge on marine biodiversity patterns and drivers across latitudes, longitudes, and depths indicates that none of the postulated patterns represent a rule.

Association of Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Animal Ownership With Relapse to Acute Malnutrition Among Children Aged 6–59 Months in Mali, South Sudan and Somalia: A Multi‐Site Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
Relapse rates post‐SAM treatment varied: 32% in Mali, 63% in South Sudan, 21% in Somalia. Diverse WASH and animal ownership factors were linked to relapse risk, differing by context. Some WASH conditions increased risk, whereas animal ownership was protective in Mali and South Sudan. No significant associations emerged in Somalia.

Evolutionary legacies structure the geography of seagrass traits across the world's oceans

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Traits modulate species' ability to track shifts in climate, yet the extent to which traits have been shaped by the contemporary environment and/or historical processes remains poorly understood. Here, we fill this gap for the world's seagrasses, habitat‐forming species that provide critical ecosystem services.

Leaf gas exchange measurement for steady‐state stomatal conductance model calibration

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Stomatal conductance models are essential components of crop and land surface models, but collecting data to calibrate them remains challenging due to large leaf‐to‐leaf variability, slow stomatal kinetics, and a lack of consistent measurement protocols, leading to unknown reliability and representativeness of calibrated model parameter ...
