Evaluating anisotropy‐based Monin–Obukhov similarity theory over canopies and complex terrain

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This study shows that an anisotropy‐based generalization of Monin–Obukhov surface‐layer scaling (SC23) applies readily across a wide range of atmospheric conditions with variable terrain, canopies, and land‐cover complexity. This work focuses on the scaling of velocity variances for 7 years at the 47 sites in the National Ecological Observation Network

Phytoplankton functional group dynamics and environmental drivers in a tropical monomictic lake (Lake Yambo, Philippines)

open access: yesJournal of Limnology
Tropical monomictic lakes, characterized by a single annual mixing event and prolonged stratification, are particularly sensitive to climatic and anthropogenic pressures.

An instance of cyclonic upwelling in the southern offshore waters of Lake Victoria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Evidence is presented that cyclonic upwelling took place in the southern offshore waters of Lake Victoria on the 22nd to the 23rd March, 1969. Before this, the main upper thermocline was tilted downwards in the leeward northern half of the lake in ...

On the compatibility of single‐scan terrestrial LiDAR with digital photogrammetry and field inventory metrics of vegetation structure in forest and agroforestry landscapes

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
The single‐scan approach to terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and the self‐terrain‐normalized form of drone‐based digital aerial photogrammetry (DAP) offer practical options for rapid assessment of the vegetation structure in tropical landscapes.

Benthic macroinvertebrate community diversity of Montebello Lakes, Chiapas

open access: yesRevista Mexicana de Biodiversidad, 2019
Benthic macroinvertebrate community biodiversity of tropical lakes has been rarely addressed. The present study recognizes the taxonomic diversity of the deep benthic macroinvertebrate communities of 18 lakes of the Protected Natural Area "Lagunas de ...

ECOLOGICAL RISK ASSESSMENT OF A TROPICAL LAKE SYSTEM

open access: yesJournal of Urban and Environmental Engineering, 2013
Risk analysis of urban aquatic systems due to heavy metals turns significant due to their peculiar properties viz. persistence, non-degradability, toxicity, and accumulation.

Cuttings, Combings, Fettlings and Flock: Gender and Australian Wool ‘Waste’, 1900–1950

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As Australia's wool industry produced vast amounts of fine fleece from the nineteenth century, the wool processing and clothes manufacturing industries generated waste – products like cuttings, combings, fettlings and flock. Salvaged and then sold to waste merchants, these and other materials had a second life.
