Management of shallow tropical lakes using integrated lake farming
SIL Communications, 1953-1996, 1994AbstractIntegrated lake farming, which has been developed in China, is similar to integrated agriculture and employs a culture system based on fish and aquatic plants to reduce eutrophication. The plants are used as feed for fish and food for humans, while aquatic wastes serve to accelerate plant growth.

Ecological energetics of Chaoborus in a tropical lake
Oecologia, 1986Ecological energetics of Chaoborus brasiliensis from Lake Valencia, Venezuela, were studied between February 1979 and February 1980. Direct measurements were made of the respiration rate, assimilation efficiency, and growth rate of all 4 larval instars and of the pupae.

Tropical Lakes, Copropel, and Oil Shale
Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1966During a long-continued study of the lacustrine beds of the Eocene Green River Formation, an attempt was made to interpret past events from observation of present-day processes. After a search of some 40 years, four lakes have been found that are producing a kind of organic ooze judged to be a modern analogue of the precursors of rich oil shale. Two of

Freeze coring soft sediments in tropical lakes
Journal of Paleolimnology, 2000A new freeze corer is described that is specifically designed for operation in warm tropical lakes. It combines the standard wedge-shaped freeze-on container with a 20-liter thermos from which pellets of solid CO2 descend into the wedge to replace those that have sublimated.

Global Climate Change Strikes a Tropical Lake
Science, 2003Lake Tanganyika, just south of the equator in tropical Africa, is home to many animal species that live nowhere else. As Livingstone reports in his Perspective, historical records of lake temperature, transparency, and fauna collected for over a hundred years reveal that even the thermal inertia of this deep lake has not been able to protect it

Climate change impact on sub-tropical lakes – Lake Kinneret as a case study
Science of The Total EnvironmentClimate change is anticipated to alter lake ecosystems by affecting water quality, potentially resulting in loss of ecosystem services. Subtropical lakes have high temperatures to begin with and are expected to exhibit higher temperatures all year round which might affect the thermal structure and ecological processes in a different manner than lakes ...

Anaerobic Life in a Tropical Crater Lake
Nature, 1963THERE are very few records of animals other than Protozoa found living in oxygen-free water for which there seems to be good evidence of prolonged and active anaerobic life1,2. In many cases there is the possibility of periodic visits to oxygenated water and in others the oxygen demand is lowered by the reduction or even complete cessation of activity.
