Tropical forests as drivers of lake carbon burial

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
AbstractA significant proportion of carbon (C) captured by terrestrial primary production is buried in lacustrine ecosystems, which have been substantially affected by anthropogenic activities globally. However, there is a scarcity of sedimentary organic carbon (OC) accumulation information for lakes surrounded by highly productive rainforests at warm ...

Macroinvertebrate communities associated with macrophyte habitats in a tropical man-made lake (Lake Taabo, Côte d’Ivoire)

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 2011
An ecological study was done on Lake Taabo with the main objective of characterising macroinvertebrate communities associated with the microhabitats created mainly by Eichhornia crassipes and other littoral native macrophytes.

Effects of daily changes in environmental factors on the abundance and richness of Odonata Efeitos das mudanças diárias dos fatores ambientais sobre a abundância e a riqueza de Odonata

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia, 2011
AIM: The aim of this work was to investigate the effects of daily changes in surface water abiotic factors on the abundance of Odonata larvae and the genus richness in a lateral lake isolated from a tropical river during the nycthemeral cycle in dry and ...

Water quality and water-use conflicts in Lake Taabo (Ivory Coast) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The Lake Taabo (Ivory Coast, Africa) results of the construction of the Taabo dam on the Ban- dama River. The changes in the water level of the 69-km² lake depend on 1) the rainfall linked to alternating dry/wet seasons; 2) the extraction of water for ...

Diatom assemblage in a tropical lake of northeastern Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2010
The composition and spatial variation of diatom assemblage in surface sediments of Caçó Lake (shallow, mesotrophic and weakly acid lake - Maranhão State, Brazil) were analyzed in order to know the distribution pattern of the species along the lake during rainy season (April 1999).

The distribution of Siombak lake sediments, a tropical tidal lake in Indonesia

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2022
Abstract Siombak Lake is one of Indonesia’s tropical tidal lakes located in Medan City, North Sumatra Province. This lake is very dynamic because the lake water level is fluctuating according to the Belawan waters’ tidal (Malacca Strait). This study aims to determine the distribution of sediments in Siombak Lake.

Zooplankton as an Indicator: A Dramatic Shift in Its Composition Following a Sudden Temporal Brownification of a Tropical Oligotrophic Lake in Southern Mexico

open access: yesDiversity
Lake Bacalar, a fragile oligotrophic ecosystem located in the southeast of Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, suffered from a sudden brownification after the tropical storm Cristobal in June 2020 in the Gulf of Mexico.

Thermal structure of the Poraquê lake, Central Amazonian, Brazil - doi: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v33i2.5150

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2011
Thermal gradient of a Central Amazonian lake was studied to establish a link between seasonal variations in the water level, temperature, suspended particulate matter (SPM) and thermal stratification.

Water mite predation on zooplankton of a tropical lake [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2002
Water mite (Krendowskia sp.) predation on zooplanktonic species from Lake Monte Alegre (São Paulo State, Brazil) was tested in laboratory experiments. One cladoceran, Daphnia gessneri, two copepods, Tropocyclops prasinus and Thermocyclops decipiens, and Chaoborus larvae III and IV were supplied as prey to adult mites.

The Dynamic of Phytoplankton Community Structure in Face of Warming Climate in A Tropical Man-Made Lake

open access: yesBiosaintifika: Journal of Biology & Biology Education, 2017
In freshwater ecosystems, water temperature plays as an environmental factor that regulates its structure and function. A research on the impacts of changes in temperature to the dynamics of the Phytoplankton community structure has been done.
