Viability Control for Mildew Testing of Materials and Equipment in Tropical Chambers [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Microbiology, 1970
A method is proposed for indicating proper environmental conditions for fungus development in specification tests of materials in “tropical chambers.”

Haplotype‐Resolved 3D Genomic Landscapes and Their Impacts on Agronomic Traits in Grapevine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a haplotype‐resolved 3D genomic landscape of grapevine, revealing that structural variations (SVs) are closely associated with phased topologically associating domain (TAD) boundary transitions. These rearrangements coordinate with allele‐specific DNA methylation (ASM) and allele‐biased gene expression (ASE) to shape key agronomic ...

Light and Dark Cycles Control the Structural Evolution of Photoresponsive Supramolecular Systems

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Here, we report a photoswitchable synthetic peptide that, under light energy cycles, exhibits supramolecular polymorphism coupled to darkness‐driven structural self‐selection. We demonstrate that light sustains a transient assembled state in the form of helical nanoribbons, hindering the system from undergoing a transition to the disassembled state ...

Climate change, malaria and neglected tropical diseases: a scoping review

open access: yesTransactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
To explore the effects of climate change on malaria and 20 neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), and potential effect amelioration through mitigation and adaptation, we searched for papers published from January 2010 to October 2023.

The history of the neglected tropical disease movement

open access: yesTransactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2021
The history of the neglected tropical disease movement is seen through the lens of authors who worked during the last 4 decades in different roles and in different settings, from Western-based laboratories to clinical roles in endemic countries and in ...

Two Routes to Land: Genomic Underpinnings of Parallel Aerial Egg Deposition in Aquatic Old‐World Pila and New‐World Pomacea (Ampullariidae)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative genomics of Gondwana‐diverged Pila and Pomacea reveals parallel evolution of aerial oviposition. Convergent chromosomal rearrangements reshape regulatory landscapes within topologically associating domains. Lineage‐specific gene family expansions and viral‐derived perivitelline proteins (PV1) underpin desiccation resistance.

Community-directed distributors—The “foot soldiers” in the fight to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2021
The neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) affect hundreds of millions of people, predominantly in rural, often difficult-to-access areas, poorly served by national health services.

The political economy of precarious work in the tourism industry in small island developing states [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
International tourism is now the predominant industry driving growth in many small island developing states (SIDS). Governments of small islands in the Indian Ocean, Caribbean and Pacific have seemingly put most of their eggs into one development basket –

Achieving High‐Density and Stress‐Resilient Maize Breeding Via Germplasm Innovation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Global population growth and climate change have exacerbated the global food crisis. This perspective presents a conceptual framework focusing on enhancing population advantages. Several novel breeding objectives are proposed to improve density tolerance and stress resistance for yield improvement.

Thermostable Bioluminescent Intercalating Dyes for Real‐Time, Integrated Nucleic Acid Amplification and Detection

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We present a bioluminescent diagnostic platform that integrates DNA amplification and detection in a single step. The engineering of thermostable luciferase‐intercalating dye conjugates and controlled release of caged luciferin substrates enable real‐time, detection of attomolar concentrations of viral DNA within 30 min.
