Wild Animal Suffering Is Not Intractable: A Precautionary Approach to Compassionate Intervention

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wild animals suffer due to human activity, yet natural factors contribute far more significantly to their suffering. In light of this, some propose that we have a pro tanto obligation to intervene in ecosystems to improve wild animal welfare.

Human Health Risk Assessment From Exposure to Toxic Metals in Soils and Leafy Vegetables in Smallholder Farms of Northeastern Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study assessed human health risks associated with exposure to potentially toxic metals (PTMs) in soils and leafy vegetables cultivated in smallholder agricultural systems in Northeastern Brazil. Soil and vegetable samples were collected from 18 agricultural areas and analyzed for cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), nickel

The wear of material in humid-tropical conditions

Wear, 1993
Abstract Humidity and temperature have played an important role in the wear of materials in general and particularly cast iron and steel. In this paper we present experimental results on the wear of steel depending on a variety of humidities under various temperatures (this is part of the tribology programme in Vietnam). The experimental results also

Serviceability of Construction Materials Under Tropical Climate Effects

2016
The key aspect discussed in this study is the serviceability of the construction materials namely concrete and steel under the tropical climate effects. The environmental effects such as the temperatures, chemicals from the rain, and particles brought by the wind can cause corrosion on the concrete surface and thus may affect a structure’s performance.

Thermal Performance of Developed Coating Material as Cool Pavement Material for Tropical Regions

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2014
The amount of solar energy emitted back from conventional asphalt pavement contributes to the phenomenon of urban heat island (UHI), and the current work was focused on studying the thermal behavior of asphalt pavement developed as a coating material from wasted tile.
