Eucalypts for Tropical Rainforest (Af) climate [PDF]

open access: yesSilvae Genetica, 2021
Abstract The equatorial region of the world includes areas of Tropical Rainforest (Af) and Tropical Monsoon (Am) climate zones, which are distinguished by high temperatures and high rainfall, but soils which are often deficient. Potential productivity of plantation forestry in this area is high, and so are the pest and disease dangers ...

Tree Species Diversity, Richness, and Similarity in Intact and Degraded Forest in the Tropical Rainforest of the Congo Basin: Case of the Forest of Likouala in the Republic of Congo

open access: yes, 2016
Trees species diversity, richness, and similarity were studied in fifteen plots of the tropical rainforests in the northeast of the Republic of Congo, based on trees inventories conducted on fifteen 0.25 ha plots installed along different types of ...

Seed–Habitat Thermal Interactions Contribute to the Mosaic Distribution Patterns of Invasive Chromolaena odorata and Ageratina adenophora in South Yunnan, China 种子与生境之间的热相互作用促成飞机草和紫茎泽兰在中国云南南部的镶嵌式分布

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 85-94, March 2025.
Chromolaena odorata and Ageratina adenophora are invasive species in Southern Yunnan, China; they have very differing, yet overlapping, climate niches. Both invaders produce a large number of small pappus‐bearing achenes every year. They grow in, and their seeds are dispersed to, both suitable and marginal habitats.

Optimizing SAR data processing and thresholding for forest change detection: an application for early deforestation warnings on eastern Amazonia [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The present work proposes a prototype for an operational method for early deforestation detection of cloudy tropical rainforests. The proposed methodology makes use of Sentinel-1 SAR data processed into the Google Earth Engine platform for flag the areas where the probability of recent deforestation is high.

Conservation Gap Within a Nature Reserve: A Case Study in the Biodiversity Hotspot of Rare and Endangered Plants at the Southern Gaoligong Mountains 高黎贡山南段稀有濒危植物保护空缺分析

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 71-84, March 2025.
Gaoligong Mountain is home to a large number of rare and endangered species, but the effectiveness of conservation measures in the Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve remains uncertain. We predicted the potential distribution areas of 361 rare and endangered wild plants in southern Gaoligong Mountain under current and future climate change scenarios and ...

Biomass Characteristics of Tropical Montane Rain Forest in National Park of Hainan Tropical Rainforest

open access: yesLand
Forest biomass, as a carrier of carbon, is an important indicator for judging forest productivity, stability and sustainable development capacity. Using the survey data of sample plots in eight forest areas in central Hainan, the biomass distribution of ...

Effects of Selection Logging on Rainforest Productivity [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Forestry 53:200-214 (1990), 2006
An analysis of data from 212 permanent sample plots provided no evidence of any decline in rainforest productivity after three cycles of selection logging in the tropical rainforests of north Queensland. Relative productivity was determined as the difference between observed diameter increments and increments predicted from a diameter increment ...

Predation by Atractosteus tropicus on Bufo marinus and its possible affect on population in a lowland tropical wet rainforest [PDF]

open access: yesBoletin de la Sociedad Herpetologica Mexicana 18 (2010) 51-60, 2020
Fish predation can affect amphibian populations. Most examples report invasive fish species and their negative effect on specific amphibians. Here we provide an occurrence of natural fish predation by the tropical gar Atractosteus tropicus on the cane toad Bufo marinus. We observed physical damage caused by A. tropicus attacking B. marinus.

Exploring the Impact of a Naturalist Training Camp on Biodiversity Conservation Willingness and Mental Well‐Being 博物达人训练营对参与者生物多样性保护意愿和心理健康的影响

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 20-32, March 2025.
This study examined the impact of a 9‐day naturalist training camp at the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden on participants' conservation attitudes and mental well‐being. Findings showed significant improvements in biodiversity knowledge, social connectedness, and naturalist identity, which contributed to increased environmental stewardship and ...
