Allocation of phosphorus in a tropical savanna

Chemosphere, 1999
The allocation of phosphorus (P) was studied in the different components of a Trachypogon savanna ecosystem, particularly in those related to biological productivity processes. The research was based on the sequential fractionation of soil P and on the determination of P content in different plant components.

Determinants of Tropical Savannas

1996
Tropical savannas, defined as ecosystems formed by a continuous layer of graminoids (grasses and sedges) with a discontinuous layer of trees and/or shrubs, are the most common vegetation type (physiognomy) in the tropics. Tropical savannas are found over a wide range of conditions: rainfall from approximately 200 mm to 1500 mm a year, temperature from ...

Savanna–forest hysteresis in the tropics

Global Ecology and Biogeography, 2001
AbstractA simple dynamic model relating forest area in a region, its contribution to dry season precipitation and the effect on its own establishment was developed. The model equation shows hysteresis between forest and savannas as a function of imported dry season precipitation.
