Gut Microbiota Differences in Wild Asian Elephants From Pu'er, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study compared the gut microbiota of two wild Asian elephant populations in Jiangcheng (JC) and Liushun (LS), Yunnan, China. Significant differences in microbial structure, diversity, and function were found. Across samples, 24 phyla, 48 classes, 98 orders, 164 families, 288 genera, and 351 species were annotated.

Fish Buffet: Dietary Observations in the Oman Saw‐Scaled Viper (Echis omanensis), with a Review of Fish‐Eating Vipers

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
We present the first records of the arid‐adapted Oman saw‐scaled vipers feeding on fish. Apon further review we identified 14 fish‐eating vipers globally. These findings suggest that fish may be more common in the diets of vipers than realized, although still rare, and likely to be region‐ or season‐specific prey.

Persistence Vulnerability of the African Savanna Elephant Loxodonta africana to Anthropocene Threats in East Africa

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Anthropogenic climate change and habitat degradation are rapidly reshaping and reducing tropical habitats, threatening vulnerable species. We aimed to map current and future climatically suitable habitats for the African savanna elephant (Loxodonta africana) in East Africa using a species distribution modeling framework and to identify Anthropocene ...

Linear Water Erosion in the State of Mato Grosso (Brazil): Spatial Analysis and Identification of Critical Areas

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
Mapping linear water erosion across Mato Grosso revealed spatially concentrated critical areas rather than a uniform distribution. Erosion foci were more frequent in environmentally fragile landscapes and areas of land‐use conflict, highlighting where monitoring and soil‐conservation actions should be prioritized.

Effects of Rosemary, Citronella, and Tea Tree Essential Oils on Fermentation Characteristics and Aerobic Stability of Sorghum Silage

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
Rosemary, citronella, and tea tree essential oils were evaluated as natural additives for sorghum silage at four inclusion levels (0, 500, 1000, and 2000 mg kg−1 of fresh forage). Rosemary essential oil improved fermentation by increasing crude protein while reducing ammonia nitrogen and butyric acid concentrations.
