Chemical Composition, Amino Acids, Phenolic Profiles and Bioavailability of Minerals in Livingstone Potato (Plectranthus esculentus) as Affected by Different Processing Techniques

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Boiling retained the nutrients and polyphenol compounds in Plectranthus esculentus tubers better than frying or roasting. A bioavailability study showed that the phytates and oxalates in the tuber may not affect the bioavailabilities of calcium, zinc, or iron in Plectranthus esculentus tubers when eaten.

Performance of the Groenevelt and Grant Model for Fitting Soil Water Retention Data from Brazilian Soils

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ciência do Solo
The soil water retention curve (SWRC) is essential for vadose zone hydrological modeling and related applications. In 2004, Groenevelt and Grant (GRT) presented a mathematical model for describing the SWRC and reported its mathematical versatility and ...

Effect of Staggered Contour Trenches and Hillside Ditches on surface runoff and soil loss on steep slopes in shaded coffee (Coffea arabica), Costa Rica

open access: yesSoil Security
Soil erosion is one of the main causes of soil degradation and an important environmental problem, often accelerated by human activities. Different types of soil and water conservation measures (SWCM) have been implemented in worldwide to control soil ...

Influence of notillage on carbon sequestration and erosion in Brazil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Les sols constituent le plus gros réservoir superficiel de C (hors les roches carbonatées), environ 1500 Gt C, ce qui équivaut à presque trois fois la quantité stockée dans la biomasse terrestre, et deux fois celle de l'atmosphère.

Biodiversity and biomass co‐regulate urban forest drought resistance

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and the Environment, EarlyView.
Severe droughts induced by climate change present substantial challenges to urban forests. While the role that species richness plays in enhancing drought resistance in natural ecosystems has been highlighted in previous studies, its impact within urban forests remains less understood.
