Evolution in coeliac disease diagnosis and management. [PDF]

open access: yesJGH Open
Our understanding of coeliac disease is evolving from a gut‐centric view to recognizing it as a systemic illness driven by an aberrant T cell‐mediated response to gluten. Interest in population screening is growing due to the failure of traditional case finding and reliance on small bowel histology is waning as serologic tests, now validated in both ...

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 13, Issue 10, Page 1855-1886, December 2025.
Infographic. This infographic summarizes the diagnostic approach to CeD in adults, including initial serological testing, histological confirmation, criteria for a no‐biopsy diagnosis, seronegative CeD, potential CeD, and the role of gluten challenge. Prevalence of Celiac Disease in Patients With Primary Biliary Cholangitis: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 45, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Celiac disease (CeD) has been linked to both autoimmunity and chronic liver disease, but most data on the link to primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) originate from small studies and have yielded conflicting results. A systematic search was performed in the databases of Medline, Embase, Cochrane and Web of Science Core Collection for studies ...

Dysgammaglobulinaemia in Tropical Sprue [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1968
Study of immunoglobulin levels in 16 Indian control subjects showed that, compared with a Danish control series, they had a significantly higher mean level of IgG, but not of IgA or IgM. By contrast, the IgG levels in eight patients with tropical sprue were decreased or low normal in six cases and raised in only one case.

Faecal biomarkers in children with coeliac disease: A way forward?

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, Volume 114, Issue 3, Page 586-593, March 2025.
Abstract Aim Novel markers to reflect the intestinal damage in coeliac disease are needed. We studied the potential of faecal and serum neopterin, and faecal myeloperoxidase, human β‐defensin‐2, and lipocalin‐2 in a case–control study. Methods Data were collected from medical records and a biobank including newly diagnosed coeliac disease patients ...

Assessment of Intraepithelial Lymphocytes Count in Potential Celiac Disease

open access: yesAPMIS, Volume 133, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) count, central for coeliac disease (CD) diagnosis, can be performed either directly on hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)–stained paraffined sections or on optimal‐cutting‐temperature‐compound (OCT)‐embedded frozen sections stained by immunohistochemistry (IHC) with anti‐CD3.

A new algorithm for coeliac disease based on the ‘long forgotten’ TCRγδ+ intra‐epithelial lymphocytes detected with an antibody working on FFPE sections

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 86, Issue 3, Page 397-409, February 2025.
The results of the present study highlight a novel discriminant, TCRγδ+ IELs, for coeliac disease with subtle mucosal abnormalities with a diagnostic performance of 93.4%. We therefore propose a diagnostic algorithm based on simple CD3 and TCR δ immunohistochemistry which can easily be integrated into routine pathology practice.
