Radar Observations of Tropical Weather Systems
1990Radars have been instrumental in tropical meteorology studies dealing with the structure and organization of convective weather systems. Deep convection in the tropics is a primary mechanism for transporting heat from the planetary boundary-layer to the upper troposphere (Riehl and Malkus, 1958).

OBJECTIVE AND DYNAMICAL STUDIES OF TROPICAL WEATHER PHENOMENA
1962Abstract : IBM card data for the Caribbean was processed in the form of layer averages of wind components, height, temperature, and relative humidity. The averaged quantities were mapped by the computer, and subjective analyses were partially completed. A computer program for obtaining a streamfunction was completed.

‘Weather in the tropics’ considers the weather systems between the two subtropical anticyclones, lying at approximately latitudes 30 °N and S. The trade winds consist of air that flows out of the subtropical anticyclones towards the equatorial trough. They are strongest in the winter season, tending to weaken during the summer.

Overlooked sedimentary particles from tropical weathering environments
Geology, 1990Two varieties of sedimentary particles that are common in tropical weathering environments have remained largely overlooked by sedimentary petrologists. Alterites are grains that have been so thoroughly altered by chemical weathering processes that identification of the precursor grain is impossible.

Objective and Dynamic Analyses of Tropical Weather
1970Abstract : Studies concerned with computer methods of analyzing and forecasting tropical weather patterns are summarized. The numerical techniques include a method of making grid-point analyses of winds, a method of balancing divergence fields in the vertical, a procedure for adjusting wind fields to 'fit' cloud patterns, and a tropical forecasting ...

Amorphous marine muds from tropically weathered basalt
American Journal of Science, 1963Clay-sized detrital sediments of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, closely reflect the intense tropical weathering conditions of their basaltic source area. Most of the silica and alumina present is amorphous allophane or in weakly crystalline halloysite. It is suggested that unstable muds of this composition may have been the raw materials for authigenesis of ...

Bone Weathering in the Tropical Rain Forest
Journal of Archaeological Science, 1994Abstract Bones deposited on the rain forest floor exhibit distinctly different surface modifications from those found in savannas. The development of weathering cracks is considerably slower than in more open environments, suggesting that the dearth of rain forest fossil assemblages is not caused by increased weathering in these environments ...

Weathering and Erosion in the Humid Tropics
1988In the humid tropics, the primary factor which distinguishes different weathering regimes is tectonic setting, especially the contrast between tectonically active areas and stable cratonic regions. In tectonically active environments, most of the material that is exposed to weathering has undergone rapid uplift involving brittle deformation, and ...
