Extractives in some tropical woods
Total amount and composition of extractives from 12 different tropical wood species were determined by sequential extraction followed by silylation and GC, GC/MS analysis. Hexane and then acetone/water (5:1) mixture was used successively for the extraction.

Time for a plant structural economics spectrum [PDF]
We argue that tree and crown structural diversity can and should be integrated in the whole-plant economics spectrum. Ecologists have found that certain functional trait combinations have been more viable than others during evolution, generating a trait ...

A crab swarm at an ecological hotspot: patchiness and population density from AUV observations at a coastal, tropical seamount [PDF]
A research cruise to Hannibal Bank, a seamount and an ecological hotspot in the coastal eastern tropical Pacific Ocean off Panama, explored the zonation, biodiversity, and the ecological processes that contribute to the seamount’s elevated biomass.

Environmental legacy effects and acclimatization of a crustose coralline alga to ocean acidification
Prior exposure to variable environmental conditions is predicted to influence the resilience of marine organisms to global change. We conducted complementary 4-month field and laboratory experiments to understand how a dynamic, and sometimes extreme ...

Subterranean Termite Resistance of Polystyrene-Treated Wood from Three Tropical Wood Species [PDF]
The objective of this work was to investigate the resistance of three Indonesian wood species to termite attack. Samples from sengon (Falcataria moluccana), mangium (Acacia mangium), and pine (Pinus merkusii) were treated with polystyrene at loading levels of 26.0%, 8.6%, and 7.7%, respectively.
