High-throughput diagnostic markers for foliar fungal disease resistance and high oleic acid content in groundnut

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background Foliar diseases namely late leaf spot (LLS) and leaf rust (LR) reduce yield and deteriorate fodder quality in groundnut. Also the high oleic acid content has emerged as one of the most important traits for industries and consumers due to its ...

Does backyard-keeping of native sows by smallholders in Quezon, Philippines, offer sustainability benefits compared to more intensive management of exotic sow breeds?

open access: yesJournal of Agriculture and Rural Development in the Tropics and Subtropics, 2020
The present study in Quezon, Philippines, assessed the sustainability of small-scale production systems, based either on native or on exotic sow breeds, using different survey tools in a socio-economic approach. In two research periods, data sets with 49

Harnessing Outer Space for Improved Electrocaloric Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel radiative heat sink/source‐integrated electrocaloric (R‐iEC) system combines the electrocaloric (EC) effect with a thermally conductive radiative cooler (TCRC) to address heat dissipation limitations in EC devices. Utilizing outer space as a heat sink, the system achieves up to 240 W m−2 of heat dissipation performance, making it highly ...

Chemical characteristics of air from different source regions during the second Pacific Exploratory Mission in the Tropics (PEM-Tropics B) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Ten-day backward trajectories are used to determine the origins of air parcels arriving at locations of airborne DC-8 chemical measurements during NASA's second Pacific Exploratory Mission in the Tropics B that was conducted during February-April 1999 ...

A Scalable, Durable, Fire‐Safe All‐Day Passive Radiative Cooling Coating for Sustainable Buildings

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a scalable, durable coating that combines a fire‑retardant copolymer adhesive, hollow glass microspheres, and boron oxide to achieve passive radiative cooling with over 94% solar reflectance and >95% mid‑infrared emissivity. The coating maintains performance after UV and rain exposure and exhibits UL‑94 V‑0 fire resistance, enabling ...

Inserting Tropical Dry Forests Into the Discussion on Biome Transitions in the Tropics

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2018
Tropical moist forests and savannas are iconic biomes. There is, however, a third principal biome in the lowland tropics that is less well known: tropical dry forest.
