Precipitation and Temperature‐Dependent Locomotor Performance Drive the Abundance of a Neotropical Lizard

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 6, November 2025.
We investigated how climate and ecophysiology affect the demography of the lizard Tropidurus oreadicus in the Brazilian Cerrado. While lizards were more frequently captured in the dry season, their abundance peaked during the rainy season when their locomotor performance was highest.

Sperm ultrastructure and spermatogenesis in the lizard, Tropidurus itambere

open access: yesBIOCELL, 2003
Spermatogenesis, with emphasis on spermiogenesis, is described for the lizard, Tropidurus itambere, using light microscopy, phase contrast and epifluorescence, as well as scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Cellular differentiation involves events of chromatin condensation, nuclear elongation and the formation of structural complexes, such ...

Where Art Thou? Urbanization Decreases Attacks on Sentinel Prey by Arthropods, but Not Birds, in a Tropical City

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 5, September 2025.
We assessed predator–prey interaction responses to diverse land use and cover in urban and rural landscapes in a tropical city. We found a sharp decline in predatory arthropods driven by increased built‐up areas, while birds were unaffected by land cover and land use. Our results show that urbanization negatively affected predatory arthropods modifying

Faunal Responses to Habitat Disturbance: Do the Principles Explaining Responses of Ant Communities Also Apply to Terrestrial Reptiles?

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 3, March 2025.
Understanding biotic responses to disturbance and their underlying mechanisms is critical to effective biodiversity conservation, but a predictive understanding of how faunal communities respond to disturbance remains elusive. In this paper, we review the applicability of a disturbance framework centred on habitat openness to understand terrestrial ...

Macro- and microscopic brain anatomy of the amazon lava lizard (Tropidurus torquatus) (WIED, 1820)

open access: yesCiência Animal Brasileira, 2023
Reptiles have a key role in understanding amniotes’ reproductive independence of water. Many adaptations arose, including in locomotor patterns and behaviours, and the nervous system adapted to those new habits. We have described the macroscopic anatomy
