Cambridge True Triaxial Apparatus

open access: yes, 1988
In true triaxial apparatus, samples of soil are subjected to three independent principal stresses and strains. Such apparatus can readily be used for controlled exploration of principal stress or principal strain space toprovide information concerning ...

Modeling Biocemented Sands: Hypoplastic Model for MICP‐Based Ground Improvement

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bio‐cementation offers a sustainable and low‐carbon alternative to conventional ground improvement methods, aligning with the growing demand for green geotechnical solutions. To enable reliable numerical simulation of bio‐cemented soil behavior in engineering applications, advanced constitutive models are required to account for the effects of

Fiber Bragg Grating Force Sensors for Minimally Invasive Surgery: State of the Art, Challenges, and Opportunities

open access: yesSmartBot, EarlyView.
This article reviews the application of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology for precise force sensing in minimally invasive surgery. It outlines the fundamental working principles and algorithms used to interpret sensor data. The text surveys clinical applications across various medical fields, such as ophthalmology and vascular intervention (Table of

The Effect of Intermediate Principal Stress on Compressive Strength of Different Cement Content of Cement-Stabilized Macadam and Different Gradation of AC-13 Mixture

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Since the effect of intermediate principal stress on the strength of pavement materials is not entirely clear so far, a proprietary true triaxial apparatus was developed to simulate the spatial status of principal stresses to conduct compressive strength

Effect of Double Annealing on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Medium Manganese Steel

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
A double intercritical annealing strategy is proposed to tailor the multiphase microstructure and mechanical response of a medium‐Mn steel. The treatment produces an ultrafine mixture of ferrite, martensite and multiple austenite populations with graded thermal and mechanical stability, formed through austenite reversion and controlled retransformation.

An Improved True Triaxial Hoek–Brown Strength Criterion

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2023
Hoek–Brown strength criterion has been widely used in rock and rock mechanics analysis, rock slope stability analysis, rock tunnel design, and other fields, but the conventional Hoek–Brown strength criterion does not consider the influence of ...

A new smooth failure criterion for concrete inspired by Lubliner's condition

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract A new failure criterion with 10 parameters is proposed, based on Lubliner's idea of joining two Drucker–Prager cones. The novelty lies in the way of introducing deviatoric shape variation: through two Podgórski's functions. This feature allows for improving plane stress cross‐section's compatibility with experimental data.

Loading rate dependence of permeability evolution in porous aeolian sandstones [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Mechanical properties of rocks are characterized by their notable dependence on the applied deformation rate. However, little is known about the strain rate dependence of fluid flow properties since most laboratory tests are conducted using a single ...
