Simulation of Pressuremeter Shearing Mode by True Triaxial Apparatus

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2007
Abstract Pressuremeters are commonly used for determining the modulus of soil in the field. The shearing plane of the pressuremeter differs from those in the conventional laboratory strength tests; therefore the moduli obtained from these tests may be different.

Failure of Castlegate Sandstone Under True Triaxial Loading

2011
A test series designed to investigate and quantify the effect of the intermediate principal stress on the failure of Castlegate sandstone was completed. Using parallelepiped specimens and a true triaxial testing system, constant mean stress tests were conducted. Stress states ranged from axisymmetric compression to axisymmetric extension.

A True Triaxial Cell for Soil and Rock

1988
The design and performance of a membrane-piston, high-pressure (σ2 − σ3 ≦ 300 MN/m2) cell are presented. This device is similar to the one used for standard triaxial tests differing only in the stresses, σ2 and σ3, which are independently applied through flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) fluid cushions on prismatic specimens.

Reducing boundary effects during True Triaxial loading of rocks

Even though stresses in the crust are triaxial (𝜎1>𝜎2>𝜎3) the overwhelming majority of rock deformation experiments are conducted under axisymmetric (or conventional triaxial) loading (𝜎1>𝜎2=𝜎3).
