Configuration Optimization of Trusses
Journal of the Structural Division, 1981A minimum weight design of trusses is considered by including sizing and configuration variables simultaneously in the design space. Second-order Taylor series expansions of displacement quantities are used along a search direction in order to avoid large numbers of complete structural analyses. Disjoint feasible regions are recognized.

Experimental performance of optimized trusses
IABSE Congress Reports, 2021<p>A series of six 3D printed discretely optimized truss specimens and two warren truss specimens were experimentally loaded until failure. The results were compared to the theoretical failure loads and stresses determined using Maxwell’s Method. Each set of truss specimens were loaded in a simple span condition, with a point load applied at the ...

Optimization of Truss Geometry
Journal of the Structural Division, 1969The effect of multiple (independent) load conditions on the optimum geometrical configurations of planar trusses is investigated. A general configuration is established by considering all truss components connecting the nodal points of a rectangular gridwork of possible joint locations.

A method is presented for the optimum shape design of trusses. This method obtains the optimum locations of the joints while it employs the concept of ground structure. In the formulation of the design problem the displacements of the joints are treated as design variable in addition to member areas and joint coordinates.

OPTIMAL DESIGN AND DYNAMICS OF TRUSS BRIDGES
Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Computational Methods in Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering (COMPDYN 2015), 2015Bridge structures have attracted the interest of Engineers throughout the history because they represent the attempt of men to overcome obstacles. Bridges allow easier connections between two different points and faster displacements of goods and people. The present work makes use of truss structures to search for the most efficient bridges.

An approximation method for configuration optimization of trusses
29th Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1988Two- and three-dimensional elastic trusses are designed for minimum weight by varying the areas of the members and the location of the joints. Constraints on member stresses and Euler buckling are imposed and multiple static loading conditions are considered.
