Second-order cone programming formulations for a class of problems in structural optimization

open access: yes, 2010
This paper provides efficient and easy to implement formulations for two problems in structural optimization as second-order cone programming (SOCP) problems based on the minimum compliance method and derived using the principle of complementary energy ...

Stochastic Entanglement of Deterministic Origami Tentacles For Robust Robotic Grasping

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces an origami tentacle gripper to robustly grasp objects‐in air, underwater, and even in orbital space‐by exploiting a synergy between local, deterministic deformation programming and global, stochastic entanglements. A single origami tentacle can be designed to coil with a simple tendon pull.

Latent Diffusion Process With Mechanistic Guidance For Designing Functionally Graded Metamaterials With Perfect Connectivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A latent diffusion‐based framework is proposed for designing functionally graded metamaterials with perfect connectivity. By integrating vector‐quantized latent representations with mechanistic guidance, the framework enables accurate inverse design toward target elastic properties.

Arti?cial Ontogeny for Truss Structure Design

open access: yes2008 Second IEEE International Conference on Self-Adaptive and Self-Organizing Systems Workshops, 2008
This paper introduces an approach based on Artificial Embryogeny for truss design to address the problem of finding the best truss structure for a given loading. In this setup, the basic idea is to optimize the size and length of beams in a truss through the actions of a set of cells that are distributed over the very truss structure. Given information

Damage Localization and Quantification of Truss Structure Based on Electromechanical Impedance Technique and Neural Network

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2014
Truss structure is widely used in civil engineering. However, it is difficult to quantitatively monitor the state of truss structures because of the connection diversity and complexity of truss structures. In this paper, electromechanical impedance (EMI)

Programmable Sequential 4D Actuation in Multistable Kirigami Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a modular kirigami metamaterial framework enabling programmable multistability and sequential 4D actuation. By coupling geometry‐controlled multistability with material‐dependent recovery kinetics, spatiotemporal deformation can be precisely programmed.

The Overview of Optimization Methods Applied to Truss-Z Modular System

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2020
Extremely Modular Systems (EMSs) are comprised of as few types of modules as possible and allow creating structurally sound free-form structures that are not constrained by a regular tessellation of space.

Double Helix Structure for Stable Flexural Actuation in Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work introduces a double‐helical architecture for soft robotic actuators that enhances twisting resistance, increases output force, and minimizes undesired deformation. Actuators driven by shape‐memory alloy wires exhibit a roughly fivefold higher torsional/flexural stiffness ratio and 50% greater force output.
