Time difference between the 1854 CE Ansei–Tokai and Ansei–Nankai earthquakes estimated from distant tsunami waveforms on the west coast of North America

open access: yesProgress in Earth and Planetary Science, 2022
We estimated the time difference between the 1854 CE Ansei–Tokai and Ansei–Nankai earthquakes from tidal records of two tide gauge stations (San Francisco and San Diego) on the west coast of North America.

Insights on the Source of the 28 September 2018 Sulawesi Tsunami, Indonesia Based on Spectral Analyses and Numerical Simulations

open access: yesPure and Applied Geophysics, 2018
The 28 September 2018 Sulawesi tsunami has been a puzzle because extreme deadly tsunami waves were generated following an Mw 7.5 strike-slip earthquake, while such earthquakes are not usually considered to produce large tsunamis.

Tuning the Photochemistry of Entatic State Model Systems

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, EarlyView.
We present the photochemistry of the entatic state model [Cu(DMEGqu)2]+/2+, a copper guanidino‐quinoline complex pair. By transient IR and UV/Vis spectroscopy, we obtained the lifetimes of the different excited states. We show that the structural effect of the guanidine tunes the photochemistry of this entatic state model.

Fragility functions for a reinforced concrete structure subjected to earthquake and tsunami in sequence

open access: yesEngineering structures, 2020
Many coastal regions lying on subduction zones are likely to experience the catastrophic effects of cascading earthquake and tsunami observed in recent events, e.g., 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.

Dwelling in a post‐fallout landscape: re‐shaping and sustaining life in a former evacuation zone in Fukushima Habiter après la catastrophe : redonner forme au monde et entretenir la vie dans une ancienne zone évacuée à Fukushima

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Anthropological Institute, EarlyView.
This article explores the activities of daily life in a village neighbouring the TEPCO nuclear power plant in Fukushima. It argues that one of the potentials of taking a dwelling perspective – a phenomenological approach to living within the ecological and social environments – emerges most compellingly within a polluted landscape.

Aid and trade in water and electricity in tsunami-affected countries: India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In the four countries most affected by the tsunami - India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand, multinational companies have been pursuing lawsuits to claim compensation for failed private projects in water and electricity - compensation which could cost ...

Rapid mantle flow with power-law creep explains deformation after the 2011 Tohoku mega-quake

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Large subduction zone earthquakes like the M 9.0 Tohoku earthquake of 2011 are followed by transient surface deformation. Here, the authors show this to be caused by rapid flow taking place in the asthenosphere due to temporarily decreased viscosity ...

REPRODUCING OPERATIONAL LANDSCAPES: The Rock Mining for Indonesia's New Capital City

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Indonesia's new capital city is designed to become a green and sustainable city. In this article, we examine the (un)sustainability of the process through which the city is coming into being. Using the sociospatial theory of planetary urbanization, we trace the dialectical relationship between the new city and sites beyond it to show how ...

Inflation from Tsunami-waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We investigate inflation driven by the evolution of highly excited quantum states within the framework of out of equilibrium field dynamics. These states are characterized by a non-perturbatively large number of quanta in a band of momenta but with ...

Potential Economic Losses due to Earthquakes Induced Building Damages in Ambon-Indonesia: An Event Based Probabilistic Seismic Hazards Assessment Approach [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Ambon, in the eastern part of Indonesia, has historical records of damaging earthquake events. In the last ten years, at least there were two times of earthquakes that caused severe damages on the city.
