The Lancet, 1971
It has been suggested by W.I.C. Morris (Lancet 1: 706 April 3 1971) that surgeons show failure risks on consent forms. However this would remove the patients peace of mind which is the reason for seeking sterilization. There is legal opinion that the patient need not be told of risk.

This is a review of 121 cases of interval vaginal tubal ligations done by fimbriectomy between 1971 and 1979. The technic has proved to be effective, economical, rapid, safe, and simple, and requires only a short convalescence. There have been no subsequent pregnancies or serious postoperative febrile complications.

Late tubal patency following tubal ligation
Fertility and Sterility, 1981Hysterosalpingography (HSG), performed in the first 3 months after tubal ligation, has demonstrated a 1% to 2% incidence of tubal patency when initial operative errors have been excluded. In a group of 54 women, HSG was performed a mean of 4.8 years following sterilization; 9 women (16.7%) demonstrated spillage which was confirmed at laparoscopy in 7 ...

Bilateral tubal pregnancy after puerperal tubal ligation
The Journal of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, 2000Ectopic pregnancy is one complication of tubal sterilization. A 39-year-old multiparous woman underwent puerperal transcutaneous tubal ligation in the infraumbilical region after delivery of her fourth child. Tubal pregnancy occurred in the right and left salpinx, respectively, at different times, with laparoscopic surgery performed after each one.

By minilaparotomy or through the laparpscope, Falope Ring sterilization is accomplished by applying silicone rubber bands to the Fallopian tubes. The applicator and its use are described and 383 cases without any major complication are reported. The major advantage is elimination of thermocoagulation.

Tubal Ligation and Pregnancy: Mechanism of Recanalization After Tubal Ligation
Fertility and Sterility, 1975The mechanism of recanalization after resection of a segment of the fallopian tube by the Pomeroy sterilization method is discussed. At the level of resection, the epithelial lining of the fallopian tube tends to regenerate, covering the split ends and planes of cleavage of the resected surfaces and forming slitlike spaces and blind pouches lined by ...

It has been estimated that 20-40% of women who undergo sterilization experience longterm sequelae which as a group are known by terms such as "tubal ligation syndrome." The sequelae include dysfunctional uterine bleeding dysmenorrhea dyspareunia pelvic pain premenstrual syndrome and amenorrhea. The cause of these symptoms is unknown.

Pyosalpinx Subsequent to Tubal Ligation
Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, 1989A case of salpingitis with pyosalpinx subsequent to tubal ligation is described. Ectopic pregnancy and tubal ligation
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1981PIP: We have read the article "High rate of ectopic pregnancy following laparoscopic tubal coagulation failures," by McCausland (American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 136: 95, 1980), with considerable interest. While we do not underestimate the grave clinical problems presented by unrecognized ectopic pregnancy among women with earlier tubal ...
