Prediction of crack coalescence of steam generator tubes in nuclear power plants

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2004
Prediction of failure pressures of cracked steam generator tubes of nuclear power plants is an important ingredient in scheduling inspection and repair of tubes. Prediction is usually based on nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of cracks. NDE often reveals two neighboring cracks.

Coalescence evaluation of collinear axial through-wall cracks in steam generator tubes

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2007
Abstract To maintain the structural integrity of steam generator tubes, usually, 40% of wall thickness plugging criterion has been adopted. However, since the criterion is applicable only for the steam generator tube containing a single crack, the interaction effect of multiple cracks cannot be considered.

A numerical study on the coalescence of emulsion droplets in a constricted capillary tube

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2006
Using a new computational model, we have studied the dynamics and coalescence of a pair of two-dimensional droplets in pressure-driven flow through a constricted capillary tube, which is a prototype problem for the analysis of the interaction of emulsion droplets in porous media.

Influence of Reynolds Number of Tube Flow on Coalescence of Droplets in a Tube Creeping Flow

Volume 2: Advanced Electronics and Photonics, Packaging Materials and Processing; Advanced Electronics and Photonics: Packaging, Interconnect and Reliability; Fundamentals of Thermal and Fluid Transport in Nano, Micro, and Mini Scales, 2015
Coalescence phenomena of droplets in a tube creeping flow were examined. Coalescence time of two droplets was measured. Clearance diameter of clearance area between droplets was also measured. The coalescence time obtained experimentally is compared with semi-theoretical formulas. Trends of semi-theoretical formulas of coalescence time and those of the

Coalescence of Drops and Bubbles Rising through a Non‐Newtonian Fluid in a Tube

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2009
We conducted an experimental study of the interaction and coalescence of two drops (of the same fluid) or bubbles translating under the action of buoyancy in a cylindrical tube. The close approach of two Newtonian fluid particles of different size in a non‐Newtonian continuous phase was examined using image analysis, and measurements of the coalescence

The High-Order Coalesced TM11-Like Mode Operation for 220 GHz Sheet Beam Traveling-Wave Tube

IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology, 2021
Sheet beam vacuum electron tubes are an attractive solution for high-power sources or amplifiers at millimeter-wave and terahertz range. In this article, a high-order coalesced TM11-like mode operation for 220 GHz sheet beam traveling-wave tube is proposed. The feasibility of coalesced TM11-like mode operation is investigated.

On the coalescence of twisted flux tubes

Geophysical & Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics, 1988
We study the problem of the coalescence of twisted flux tubes by assuming that the azimuthal field lines reconnect at a current sheet during the coalescence process and everywhere else the magnetic field is frozen in the fluid. We derive relations connecting the topology of the coalesced flux tube with the topologies of the initial flux tubes, and then

MUSIG modeling and evaluation of nitrogen bubble coalescence in a bottom-closed vertical tube

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2010
A MUSIG model is numerically resolved for the coalescence process of dispersed small nitrogen vapor bubbles into big bubbles in a bottom-closed vertical tube. The effects of turbulence, laminar shear as well as wake entrainment on bubble collision and coalescence are taken into account. Then photographic experiments are conducted to evaluate the model,

Coalescence of two gas slugs rising in a co-current flowing liquid in vertical tubes

Chemical Engineering Science, 1998
Abstract An experimental study is presented about the interaction between two slugs rising through a co-current flowing liquid in vertical tubes with 22, 32 and 52 mm internal diameters. For the conditions studied the liquid flow pattern in the wake of the slugs was turbulent and the main liquid flow regime was either laminar or turbulent.

Effect of Reynolds Number on Coalescence of Droplets in Creeping Flow Through a Tube

Volume 1A: Symposia, Part 2, 2015
The coalescence of droplets in creeping flow through a tube was experimentally examined. The coalescence time of two droplets and the diameter of the clearance area between the droplets were measured. The experimentally measured coalescence times were compared with those determined by semi-theoretical formulas and generally good agreement was observed ...
