Coalescence Criterion of Part-Through Wall Cracks in Steam Generator Tubes of Nuclear Power Plants
Energy Conversion and Resources: Fuels and Combustion Technologies, Energy, Nuclear Engineering, 2004In scheduling inspection and repair of nuclear power plants, it is important to predict failure pressure of cracked steam generator tubes. Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of cracks often reveals two neighboring cracks. If two neighboring part-through cracks interact, the tube pressure, under which the ligament between the two cracks fails, could be ...

AbstractWe present the results of theoretical studies of the pressure fluid flow fundamental characteristics in tube coalescers used in the treatment processes for oily wastewater. It is shown that three different regions of flow (wall sublayer, transition sublayer, and flow kernel), having their own hydrodynamic characteristics, are formed in a cross ...

Human endothelial cells (EC), when plated onto gels of extracellular matrix proteins such as Matrigel or collagen form capillary tubes in a process thought to mimic angiogenesis. We have shown previously that the extent of tube formation and the phenotype of the lumen are regulated by integrins (Gamble et al 1993) and lumen formation occurs through a ...

Coalescing Tubes Test for Oil/Water Separators (OWSs)
1998Abstract : The U.S. Army major commands (MACOMS) use thousands of gravity oil/water separators (OWSs) that currently require replacement or retrofit. This report summarizes an investigation to determine the effectiveness of vertical coalescing tubes (VCTs) as a retrofit to gravity OWSs.

Human endothelial cells, when suspended within three-dimensional collagen matrices, develop intracellular vacuoles that coalesce to form capillary lumens and tubes. Vacuole and lumen formation are completely dependent on the collagen-binding integrin alpha 2 beta 1, while other endothelial cell integrins had no apparent influence.

During an in-service inspection, if multiple cracks have been found in a nuclear component, the crack interaction effect due to adjacent cracks should be taken into account to characterize the detected multiple cracks into equivalent single combined crack or independent single crack.

The prediction of creep rupture of pressurized tubes using a model for void growth and coalescence
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2002A phenomenological formulation based on a theory of plasticity for voided solids, and power-law creep, to estimate the rupture times and strains for pressurized tubes is presented. Realistic values of the damage parameters involved are selected by satisfying the creep rupture uniaxial data for the same materials.

In this paper, we study numerically the motion of a pair of double-emulsion (DE) droplets in a two-dimensionally singly constricted capillary tube. The momentum and continuity equations are solved using the finite element method, and the interface is tracked via the level set method.
