Ethnopharmacology of Medicinal Plants of the Pantanal Region (Mato Grosso, Brazil)

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Traditional knowledge is an important source of obtaining new phytotherapeutic agents. Ethnobotanical survey of medicinal plants was conducted in Nossa Senhora Aparecida do Chumbo District (NSACD), located in Poconé, Mato Grosso, Brazil using semi‐structured questionnaires and interviews.

Estudo da biomecânica oclusal e da aderência da resina acrílica auto-polimerizável (polimetilmetacrilato) em fraturas de rinoteca de tucanos (Ramphastos toco) Study of the occlusion biomechanics and adherence of acrylic resin (polimetilmetacrilate) in fractures of rhinotheca in toucans (Ramphastos toco)

Morphology and paleoecology of a hybodontiform with serrated teeth, Priohybodus arambourgi, from the Late Jurassic of northeastern Brazil

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 1, Page 5-32, January 2026.
Abstract Hybodontiformes was a diverse, successful, and important group of shark‐like chondrichthyans known from a variety of ecosystems. Some representatives of the order had a wide palaeogeographic distribution, as is the case with Priohybodus arambourgi. With a multicuspidate crown, P. arambourgi was the first hybodontiform to develop fully serrated

Spatial Variation in Bird Community Composition in Relation to Topographic Gradient and Forest Heterogeneity in a Central Amazonian Rainforest

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ecology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
We investigated the effects of landscape features and forest structure on the avian community at the Reserva Florestal Adolpho Ducke near Manaus, in the Brazilian Amazon. We sampled the landscape and forest in 72 50 × 50 m plots systematically distributed in the reserve, covering an area of 6,400 ha.

A Paleotectonic Atlas of the African Plate: Permian to Recent

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Geology, Volume 48, Issue 4, Page 231-279, October 2025.
ABSTRACT The fragmentary release of petroleum data defining the deep structure and stratigraphy of African basins has been integrated with existing literature to compile 19 tectonic maps over key geological intervals from Permian to Recent times. African plate margins range in their age of opening from Late Triassic (off Lebanon), through Early/Middle ...

Ecological Gradients Influencing Waterbird Communities in Black Water Lakes in the Anavilhanas Archipelago, Central Amazonia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ecology, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
For the first time, and in a large spatial scale, the influence of ecological properties on the aquatic bird community of black water lakes in Brazilian Amazonia is evaluated. Bird surveys were conducted in 45 lakes. A total of 3626 individuals in 48 bird species were recorded; of these, 31 are aquatic, and 18 of these are primarily piscivorous.

Sustainable two‐step functionalization of carbon fibers (CFs) with polyethyleneimine and investigation of curing kinetics in composite materials

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 46, Issue 13, Page 11965-11983, 10 September 2025.
We followed the functionalization steps outlined in the figure to obtain carbon fibers (CFs) functionalized with branched polyethyleneimine (b‐PEI). The entire process was carried out under mild conditions, including plasma activation and low‐temperature heating, using an eco‐friendly solvent (water).

Tucano: Advancing neural text generation for Portuguese

open access: yesPatterns
Significant advances have been made in natural language processing in recent years. However, our current deep learning approach to language modeling requires substantial resources in terms of data and computation. One of the side effects of this data-hungry paradigm is the current schism between languages, separating those considered high-resource ...

Interdependencies between Indigenous peoples, local communities, and freshwater systems in a changing Amazon

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 3, June 2025.
Abstract Globally, Indigenous peoples and local communities (IPs and LCs) are fighting for the recognition of their knowledge and decision‐making authority in freshwater conservation. In the Amazon, decision‐making around freshwater management and conservation has often overlooked Indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) and the connections between ...

New Kinematic Model of the Early Opening of the Equatorial Atlantic Realm

open access: yesTectonics, Volume 44, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract The opening of the Equatorial Atlantic Ocean constitutes the final stage of Gondwana's breakup, leading to the separation of the African and South American continents. The early spreading has been debated due to the absence of magnetic anomalies related to the Early Cretaceous opening at low latitude, and an incomplete fracture zone record ...
