Tumors of the axis (C2 vertebra) are rare. The location and unique structure of the upper cervical spine and proximity to vital structures make diagnosis and treatment difficult. Appropriate clinical and radiographic evaluation, biopsy, oncologic and surgical staging, and adequate operative techniques and adjuvant treatments should be considered.

Tumors and Tumorous Conditions of Bone [PDF]
Clinically, tumors and tumorous conditions of bone are among the most frequently studied and diagnostically challenging diseases, the primary means of whose diagnosis is radiography. The absolute neccessity of radiography is well established so that any single diagnostic scheme that does not incorporate it is deemed inappropriate.

Of the many types of tumors located in the mediastinal compartments, most are metastatic. The most common adult tumor in the anterior compartment is thymoma. A number of important cytogenetic, immunohistochemical, and molecular analytical observations have been reported over the past year regarding this tumor.

Abrikossoff's tumor is a disease that more commonly affects the oral cavity but can also occur at other sites. It develops between the second and sixth decades of life, more frequently among women and blacks. The neoplasm can affect all parts of the body.

Tumors of the neck are important to discuss because they are not uncommon. Because of the fact that malignancy is not rare in them it is important to determine their character as early as possible; the need to know their origin and character is not far removed from that of tumors of the breast.

Genetic alterations during colorectal-tumor development.
New England Journal of Medicine, 1988Because most colorectal carcinomas appear to arise from adenomas, studies of different stages of colorectal neoplasia may shed light on the genetic alterations involved in tumor progression.

Focal midbrain tumors in childhood are usually low-grade astrocytomas amenable to surgical resection. Small lesions presenting only with hydrocephalus are best treated by cerebrospinal fluid diversion without biopsy or surgical resection.

The clonal evolution of tumor cell populations.
Science, 1976It is proposed that most neoplasms arise from a single cell of origin, and tumor progression results from acquired genetic variability within the original clone allowing sequential selection of more aggressive sublines.
