Direct optical observation of walls and disclination effects in active photonic devices

open access: yes, 2009
Liquid crystal tunable Bragg Gratings defined in planar substrates via a laser patterning technique exhibit complex wavelength tuning. This tuning displays threshold points and hysteresis. These tuning features are shown to be a manifestation of physical

The Berkeley tunable far infrared laser spectrometers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A detailed description is presented for a tunable far infrared laser spectrometer based on frequency mixing of an optically pumped molecular gas laser with tunable microwave radiation in a Schottky point contact diode.

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Highly sensitive photoacoustic acetylene detection based on differential photoacoustic cell with retro-reflection-cavity

open access: yesPhotoacoustics, 2023
In this paper, a highly sensitive photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) sensor based on retro-reflection-cavity-enhanced differential photoacoustic cell (DPAC) is demonstrated for the first time. Acetylene (C2H2) was selected as the analyte.

A broadband and high throughput single-monochromator Raman spectrometer; application for single-wall carbon nanotubes

open access: yes, 2011
We present a high sensitivity single-monochromator Raman spectrometer which allows operation with a tunable laser source. The instrument is based on the modification of a commercial Raman spectrometer; such instruments operate with holographic Rayleigh ...

Demonstration of a microelectromechanical tunable F-P cavity based on graphene-bonded fiber devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Taking advantage of the high thermal conductivity of graphene, this paper demonstrates a microelectromechanical (MEM) tunable Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity, based on a graphene-bonded fiber device (GFD) which acts as a microheater.

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

Numerical simulation of Ne-like Ar plasma dynamics and laser beam characteristics of 46.9 nm laser excited by capillary discharge

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
In this work, we performed computer modeling of high electrical discharge in an Ar filled alumina capillary in order to investigate the parameters of the discharge system that may lead to achieve an intense laser beam.

Tunable asymmetric reflectance in silver films near the percolation threshold

open access: yes, 2011
We report on the optical characterization of semicontinuous nanostructured silver films exhibiting tunable optical reflectance asymmetries. The films are obtained using a multi-step process, where a nanocrystalline silver film is first chemically ...
